UKBA in illegal tasers shock (pardon the pun)

legal stun guns 20 times more powerful than police Tasers can be illegally imported into the UK with ease, a BBC investigation has found.

Statistics obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show the Metropolitan Police has investigated more than 200 crimes involving the weapons in the past three years.
Over the same period they seized about 500 stun guns.

Good job crime's falling then...

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) insists it is tackling the problem...

Phew! That's OK then...
Quote:
The UKBA was unable to say how many stun guns it had seized last year.
A spokesman said the most recent year for which it was able to provide figures was 2008/2009 - almost four years ago, when 160 were seized.

I would assume they will be as good at it as they are at stopping illegal immigration

Quite how are the UKBA supposed to stop them - check every parcel?

Presumably by "tackling the problem" they really mean "not tackling the problem" then...

And every halfwit who has a computer is now on certain websites ordering their own little bundle of electricity.
I know that illegal items get detected at mail depots every day. I'm curious how much mail is checked and how much is waved through and what else is being imported via the Royal Mail.

Amazes me how these investigations think they have uncovered something we don't know.

There is no way they can stop them all coming in. The only thing we can do is hand out stiff penalties for possession. I believe currently you get five years for an unlicensed firearm not sure what the rules on stun guns are.

Re: UKBA in illegal tasers shock (pardon the pun)
Section 5 firearms like CS spray, tasers etc should come under the same rules as other unlicensed firearms with a minimum 5 year sentence but I can't think of anyone getting anywhere close to that so there must be an exemption somewhere.
Certainly in my experience I've not seen anything over a year (in reality about 4 months inside) being handed out for possession of stun guns.

If we had a NRA here I'm sure they would be insisting we all got tooled up just in case.

Indeed we need more good men with tasers to stop the bad men with tasers, not sure who decides who is good and who is bad
