What speed to expect ?

Ok, so I'm now on 100mb.
On ethernet I'm getting about between 20 - 50Mb/s depending on when I run the test.
Just wondered what I should expect ?

On the old 20Mb I was getting 19Mb pretty much all the time.

What do you think I can reasonably expect to get on 100Mb on ethernet...?

I'm in Staffs if that makes any difference, & have a Superhub.

Thanks.

Re: What speed to expect ?

I would bet good money you havent been upgraded dude because your speed test is 50/5. Log into the shub and have a look at your config, you should be looking for something like this:

Primary Downstream Service Flow
SFID : 900
Max Traffic Rate : 110000000 bps
Max Traffic Burst : 10000 bytes
Min Traffic Rate : 0 bps

Primary Upstream Service Flow
SFID : 899
Max Traffic Rate : 10250000 bps
Max Traffic Burst : 16320 bytes
Min Traffic Rate : 0 bps
Max Concatenated Burst : 16320 bytes
Scheduling Type : Best Effort

Re: What speed to expect ?

Hi.
I have the following:-

Primary Downstream Service Flow SFID 41684
Max Traffic Rate 111000000 bps
Max Traffic Burst 10000 bytes
Min Traffic Rate 0 bps

Primary Upstream Service Flow SFID 41683
Max Traffic Rate 5120000 bps
Max Traffic Burst 16320 bytes
Min Traffic Rate 0 bps
Max Concatenated Burst 16320 bps

Looks like I am on 100Mb but performance is woeful smetimes. Was down as low as 14Mb/s this evening. The old 20Mb only ever dropped to that, 90% of the time was on 19Mb+.

On the helpline at the moment.
Pray for me...

(Plugged into Superhub by ethernet by the way).

Re: What speed to expect ?

thing is dude you cant rely on the shub to give you reliable results when it comes to speed tests. My vmng300 always gave me 50mbits when I was on 50mbit but they forced a shub on me when I upgraded to 100mbit and the speed tests never gave me more than 36mbit. I proved that I could actually download at 100mbit (12mb/sec) but due to the crappy inner workings of the shub it produced dodgy speed test results. I suggest you give your connection a good thrashing on newsgroups during the day or download 8 files in one go from somewhere like www.gamershell.com to see what sort of speed you can actually achieve. Speed tests are only half the story and I only use them as a diagnostic tool when I think something is wrong with my connection.
