General Speedtest software

Apologies if this has been mentioned before but there's a good speed tester available here:

Jack Dinn's Auto Speed Tester

On my link, at least, it consistently shows the full speed I'm provisioned for - Something that speedtest.net never did, no matter which server I selected...

I see it uses the TBB 10MB test file - be interesting to see what speeds people get who can never get the TBB speedtest to report their full package speeds.

Hi,

JDast does not use the TBB 10M file unless you have changed the configurations.

By default the download configurations should be set to use a multiple threaded download from all these servers (at the same time) and should therefore always "max out" your connection :-

aye that top half is a different method of measuring "speed" , it measures the time taken to download a single file and calculates it from that but it was superseded by the measurement of actual throughput "the bottom half of the download configs" which is a much better way of doing it (for many reasons) and so is set as the default.

I sometimes get that on first use when turning JDast on. I've seen it once when the upstream was busy and reporting low speeds subsequently.

if you have a problem with the upload giving an error "no data flowing after 3 seconds" (latest beta says 5 seconds as opposed to 3), then try increasing you upload setting "Clipping time". There is sometimes a delay before the upload data starts flowing and can "time out" (depending on individual system/setup). an increase of clipping time should allow more time for the data to start flowing before it starts testing the throughput.

Sorry, are you saying jdast is giving incorrect results ? or am i completely at the wrong end of the stick. I try to help when problems crop up with it but reading your comment again im not 100% sure your saying that :-/

is this a default configuration ?

i assume you should be measuring 100Mb/s down and 10Mb/s up ?

Yeah, the upstream is way out, it was measuring around the 20mb mark for most of the test
