LOL My Broadbandspeed has gone up not
Looks like my original letter saying I was going to be upgraded from 50mb to 50mb was correct.
Just got another letter saying I've been upgraded to 100mb. Nope still on 50mb. As for supershrub no thanks.
I guess I'll have to ring them up at sometime and since I'm paying well over the odds retentions would be better. Thats 151 isn't it.

Re: LOL My Broadbandspeed has gone up not
1) Where do you live
2) Have you got the VMNG300
3) Have you reset your modem and checked the new config?

Re: LOL My Broadbandspeed has gone up not
Where do I live sunny sheffield
The vmng300 is what I got and this takes 100mb anyway.
The modem tends to disconnect anyway every morning and has done bar one or two breaks for about a year. I haven't checked the config I've just rebooted it anyway.
So I'm now running off 02 adsl while it boots back up. Dual wan you see.

Re: LOL My Broadbandspeed has gone up not
Correct, the vmng300 can handle 100mbit no probs. Have a look at your config and see if you have been provisioned for 100mbit. If not, ring up and moan your ass off because they have told you you have been upgraded. I'll warn you now they'll tell you it is because you aren't using a shub and you need one to get full speed bla bla bla and it is a load of rubbish. Your config should look something like this:
Primary Downstream Service Flow
SFID : 900
Max Traffic Rate : 110000000 bps
Max Traffic Burst : 10000 bytes
Min Traffic Rate : 0 bps
Primary Upstream Service Flow
SFID : 899
Max Traffic Rate : 10250000 bps
Max Traffic Burst : 16320 bytes
Min Traffic Rate : 0 bps
Max Concatenated Burst : 16320 bytes
Scheduling Type : Best Effort

Re: LOL My Broadbandspeed has gone up not
Another reboot this afternoon and the new config downloaded.
Highest I managed was 75 mbps which is good enough. Speedtests aren't reliable anyway.

Re: LOL My Broadbandspeed has gone up not
yup, I used to take speed tests as gospel when I was on 50mbit but now I am on 100mbit the only way I can really see what speed I am getting is by using torrents or newsgroups

Speedtests are perfectly reliable, it's your distorted opinion of what they're supposed to do that is unreliable

Errr no. I think you're confused as to what influences speed tests.

yeah 99% of the time its congestion (i.e. VM being at fault, not the server)

Re: LOL My Broadbandspeed has gone up not
1st post..
But actually the majority of the time I attend speed related issues it's the customers pc set up. Anti virus? Network card? Various different reasons. First thing to. Try is another source of computer, optimise pc..
The amount of confused faces I see when I run speed tests on a suitable laptop..
Yes I will admit that now and again it's down to the install or poss network but that's such a rare thing.
A 100mb connection should see around 100-110 hard wired.

Re: LOL My Broadbandspeed has gone up not
Well if Virgin is overloaded you'll get bad stats. If the test server is in heavy use you'll get bad stats. If the test server is poor or on a crappy connection you'll get bad results.
If you're uploading or downloading at the same you'll get crap results.
If you're infected you'll get poor results.

No, in all the above cases you get a correct result.
