Question Volume on V+ HD Channels

Can anyone tell me who is responsible for the audio volume on the HD channels coming through my V+ box please?

Is it VM or the broadcaster?

I find the volume on HD channels is usually much lower than non-HD channels, but sometimes (rarely) it is higher than the non-HD channels.

I'm not sure how these things work, but I get some vision of audio being set up somewhere by whichever technician is on duty at any particular time.

Another niggle with my V+ box is that when I want to watch recorded programs late at night, say in between midnight to 1am or sometimes 1am until 2am, the box becomes very unresponsive to the remote control.
Very annoying when you want to fast forward through adverts, but when you press to stop the fast forward or to play again, the program whizzes on past the end of the adverts, and then maybe responds a good 10 or more seconds after the button has been pressed on the remote.

Anyone got any ideas as to why this is happening please.

Batteries in the remote are almost new, and it works perfectly at other times of the day.

Re: Volume on V+ HD Channels

AFAIK this is a known issue with the V+ boxes and is caused when the box does it's daily update. Don't often watch telly at that time myself, but I can only imagine how frustrating it could be.
I don't know if there is a solution to this, hopefully someone with more knowledge than myself can give you some more info.

If it's any consolation, I have the same problem; not an issue 'till I switch to a non HD channel and the theatre system nearly blows me off my seat!

I believe that HD channels are broadcast in 5.1 surround sound which has a higher dynamic range than 2.0 audio. I get the same when switching from normal TV to playing DVDs, the sound on the DVD is much quieter.

Although ITV HD seem to do it differently. It seems to be worse with Tivo in that some HD channels are louder than others and the same with SD channels and it also seems to vary from day to day. Unless its my amplifier starting to fail

Re: Volume on V+ HD Channels

ITV1HD is the only HD channel that doesn't have Dolby audio, which is why it sounds different.

Re: Volume on V+ HD Channels

It varies from day to day on the same HD channel. Gives me the impression that it's being set at a particular level by a tech somewhere to whatever his personal preferences are when he is the one on duty that day.

I wouldn't mind, but some days you have to turn volume up really high to hear anything, and then another time/different day, on the same HD channel you only need a low setting on your volume control or you get blown back against the wall by the sound pressure!
