Superhub wireless range better than DIR-615?

Currently on 30MB service with a VMNG300 Modem and a D-Link DIR-615 router which were both given to me when i was on the 50MB service.

Having moved house recently i noticed that the wireless signal on my xbox 360, which is downstairs, isnt the best. Normally get 2-3 bars but on some days it drops to one.

Anyway what i want to know is that if i were to change to the Superhub would i get an increase in range or is it likely to be just as poor? I know that the DIR-615 is notorious for having mediocre wirless so just trying to suss out if i would be better moving to superhub (free) or whether i would have to purchase another router.

Forgot to say do the stats on this graph look about normal or close to what i should be getting?

Buy another router!

You do not want to be lumbered with a superhub.

I never used a D-Link router, but when I went from a WRT54G to the Superhub things that used to get a great signal could no longer connect. Things that could still connect were getting terrible throughput. This was the router and other devices in the exact same locations.

I've since got rid of the superhub and using an RT-N16 and everything is back as before with lovely wireless speeds everywhere and great range (which has been good in the sun!)

The superhub is notorious for having poor wireless, the DIR-615 is not. The 615 isn't superb either but is above average as far as N gear goes.

I get just as good wireless with the superhub as I got with the previously supplied router.

When I had the superhub I found the wireless would never reach the westwing of our house.

But now we have a VMNG300 and router we get a signal in any wing of the house or anywhere within the grounds.

Without stating what the previously supplied router is, it's not a very useful comparison.

Many thanks to all. Seems the majority notice poorer wireless range with the Superhub. Will just stick to my original plan and purchase a new router. Was just trying to save some money

Seeing as new routers are far cheaper than the Superhub I don't see why you were even considering that route to begin with...

Because i was offered a Superhub for free. I would obviously need to pay for a new router.

No, no, no. Stay away from the superhub. Your TBB test score is excellent, and having a superhub might well degrade that.

You know, you can boost the transmitter power of the DIR-615 wireless radio by flashing it with DD-WRT. It defaults to 71mW I believe, which is higher than stock firmware and noticeably improves wireless range especially if the router is roughly in the middle of your house, which is always recommended.

The stock firmware on the 615 already transmits at the legal maximum and DD-WRT will not allow you to go higher than that (at least it didn't on mine)

Found posts on this thread very helpful, combined with other reports on poor wireless range using the Superhub I have cancelled my upgrade

Currently I am on the 20 meg but pay for he 30 meg, I use an Apple Time Capsule, as my wireless device, with this I get full a strength signal throughout the house and garden

Most of the time I have 4 Apple devices connected 24/7 on any of the two networks the time capsule is running

On occasion I could have 8 users on the 2 networks, the 4 Apple devices, my Grandkids on their laptops and other visitors on their phones

All this with no problems at all and no wireless connection problems, my Gazebo is at the bottom of my garden some distance from the Time Capsule, I get a full strength signal all the time

So I dare not risk this being disrupted by the switch to a SuperHub even in Bridge Mode so I will forgo the extra speed for the peace of mind I have now
