PC keeps restarting

At first the computer would only restart while my wife was using it. I kept telling her the machine doesn't like her. The PC was working fine yesterday but this morning I switched it on and it booted but then restarts. I then get prompt to either start as normal or in Safe mode. When I boot in Normal mode it loads up and runs for about 5 mins then restarts itself. It has had again this evening when i got home it has restarted 6 times. I'm now running it in safemode to see if it will restart.

I'm using win 7 HOME SE and a self build intel i5, 4 gig ram, 1 tb hdd and 512mb graphics card..

Any ideas of what I should/could check?

Sounds like overheating? Or could be a problem with GFX / drivers?. Have you tried a system restore? Did you apply the right amount of thermal paste on the CPU?

Re: PC keeps restarting

The fans should be I have three case fans. So far the machine has not restarted while I've been in Safe mode. I notices when I was in normal mode that the 50% of the memory was being used.

Scrubbs, I started following that blog and should hopefully get a BSOD error message, so back to normal mode for now.

---------- Post added at 21:18 ---------- Previous post was at 21:14 ----------

There are quiet a few things in the event log.

This is one of the errors that I found in there

\SystemRoot\SysWow64\Drivers\cdrbsdrv.SYS has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver.

---------- Post added at 21:25 ---------- Previous post was at 21:18 ----------

Bootted up in normal mode and ran ASUS Al Suite and it recons my CPU is 29 degrees and falling and the system temperature is 25 Degree.

. Reboot just happened but I did not get a BSOD. When it restarts I seem to lose my cookies as facebook/cableforum ask me for my username and password

As far as I know, that's a good temp... Even though the paste is ready applied, it can go off / or be stale before it reaches you.

Re: PC keeps restarting

There is a setting where you can stop it rebooting on error??
But I can't remember how to do it. Might give another pointer.

Re: PC keeps restarting

Scrubbs I followed that blog and I foudn the "Automatic reboot" option I turned it off but it still reboots and does not give me errors.

Actually maybe it a heat issue as the OS would have no control over the system rebooting due to temperatures. ites just strange that it having a problem now rather than last night.

Re: PC keeps restarting

cdrbsdrv.SYS may have something to do with either the dvd burner drive or software that uses it , image burn etc?

Re: PC keeps restarting

untick auto restart in advanced options if you can get to it in time. See if it BSOD and note the code.

Most reboots are software related as other hardware faults often result in freezes. Overheating issues to the point of shut off would turn the system off but it would crawl first and the multi and voltages would drop as long as this was not turned off in bios

Gut instinct says a reinstall will fix it but it could be more serious ie failing PSU. You could rule out software with a live linux install see if it has problems if it does its not windows

I did untick the option(see attached) but it does not show me a BSOD so I can take down a error code it simply restarts the machine.
I built this machine from with brand new parts back in September 2010.

I might try the linux distro and I use Ubuntu on another machine. When I'm in safe mode it is yet to restart.

Re: PC keeps restarting

Did you try a system restore? I know some users don't like it and disable it, but if you do a restore back to when there were no problems, at least you'd know if it were your software or your hardware.
