Dell Dimension 9200 Power Supply

I've been asked to look at a 4 year old Dell Dimension 9200 - the boss's son broke it.

I've found the PSU has died. It is rated at 375W of dimensions 140mm deep, 97mm high and 150mm wide. 24 Pin plus 4 pin socket connectors to the motherboard. It powered a dual cored intel CPU, passive powered (basic) PCI graphics, SATA HD, and IDE DVD drive. The SATA leads need to be some 700mm long due to the limited routing around the case and the remote location of the HDD.

I'm struggling to find a PSU of similar size to fit back into the case. Anyone got any recommendations?

Re: Dell Dimension 9200 Power Supply

I believe Dell PSU's plugs are wired differently than others too, usually meaning you need to buy a Dell one, or one that is specifically compatible

Re: Dell Dimension 9200 Power Supply

It does look as though the connectors are all standard and a suggests that it is a standard type PSU that can be swapped out. Unfortunately my skills aren't that good at identifying what will suit as most PSUs that I can see have different dimensions especially of height.

Re: Dell Dimension 9200 Power Supply

Ah right. Was worth a mention as I know this has been an issue with Dell PSU's in the past. Their forums used to be full of people looking for help with the PSU's - including me.
Sorry I can't help further.

Re: Dell Dimension 9200 Power Supply

whats the board mounting like? does it look like ATX or mATX standard? you could lob it all in a £20 quid case. Failing that just buy any psu that fits and use a cable extension/splitter

Re: Dell Dimension 9200 Power Supply

Google seems to confirm that this model uses a standard ATX power supply, so it's really just a matter of finding something of a suitable size.

I'm not inclined to start rebuilding into a new case. I'm just looking for an easy life, especially as I'm doing this as a favour. As it is I'll have to reseat the CPU cooler as the PSU wires were wrapped around all sorts of places.

I had thought that a standard ATX power supply would be standard in size, but it appears not

Yes, looks like the standard is 150 x 140 x 86 so you'd be left with a bit of a gap. Bodgeable with a bit of care or duct tape..
