Opening Ports on Virgin Media Wireless Broadband

Hey guys, sorry to be a 1 post noob but ive been struggling a lot trying to open the ports on my router. It came with the virgin wireless broadband package a few months ago. Its a Netgear, Model: DG834G v4
With virgin media. I have searched countless tutorials and websites and reffered pages which were supposed to help but could not manage to open these damn ports. Ive tried connecting to my routers settings which is like its ip or something. When i get the Username, Password thing, all tutorials said that default username is admin and pw is password. When i input these it wouldnt work. I was wondering if Virgin media changed the defaults to something else. Ive tried the wireless network username and pw but that didnt seem to work either. I didnt change the username or pw so it should still be at default. Please can someone help me with this. I really need to open my ports and im stuck, dunno what to do. Thanks in advance for all contributions.

Re: Opening Ports on Virgin Media Wireless Broadband

DG834G is an ADSL2 modem and router. you must not be a cable user and be on Virgin national.on a netgear wireless router that i am supplied with this is what i do

enter 192.168.1.1. username = admin password = admin as well.

menu on left hand side go to advanced.

click port forward/port trigger

click add

put in service name e.g utorrent, giganews, xbox_live

keep service type at TCP/UDP

enter the start port e.g 21000

enter end port e.g 21000

server ip address will either be your pc xbox360, ps3, wireless laptop. you can see attached devices to the router in the menu item in the maintenance section of the menu.

don't do anything while the router updates.

HTH

Re: Opening Ports on Virgin Media Wireless Broadband

if it is a Virgin supplied ADSL router, then the username & password should be virgin & password , or admin & password .
the only reason that it would not be one of those, is that someone at your end has logged into the router & changed it.
Oh, and the ip address is 192.168.0.1 on ADSL routers, and 192.168.1.1 on Broadband (cable) routers.

Re: Opening Ports on Virgin Media Wireless Broadband

The router won't be blocking any ports, do you mean Forwarding ports?

Heyy. im new to thiss.. so sorry if im Not good

Okay, Your basically saying you wanna open a port?
go to : 192.168.0.1
And this is where your Stuck , right?
The username is : Admin
And the Pass is : changeme

then you will have the option to change it.. Congrats You got into it..
Now to open a port...
Scroll Down to Advanced (this is For Virgin, thats what i got)
then press Portforwarding.. Type in the Ports and Protocols..
Press Apply! Woo, You got it half open ....
Now you need to open it fully..
Now go to Portblocking; Type user and pass again. (if you get it option to.)
Then type the Port and protocols again..
Weeheyy!

NOTE : THIS BIT IS FOR PEOPLE WHO MAKE HTTP GAMES.. ETC; HABBO AND RSPS

Now For people to Join.. For example Habboo, Runescape.. that sort of thing ,, Or any HTTP Games..
You wanna go to Port Triggering. And type them in Twicee.. Or how many you have to put in..
WHOOO!!! Congrats you Portforwarded...

P.S .. Hope thiss Helps!

As this thread is over a year old you are giving incorrect advice as they are talking about routers whereas you are talking about the new modem/router hub which only came out in August this year so your advice does not apply.
