Huntingdon Life Sciences hate plot campaigners jailed
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-11599380
Quote:
Five animal rights activists have been jailed for intimidating staff at firms linked to a Cambridgeshire animal testing laboratory.
Nicole Vosper, Sarah Whitehead, Thomas Harris, Nicola Tapping and Jason Mullan were jailed for up to six years each.

Good!
I'm all for campaigning for animal rights but there are ways and means that don't involve criminal acts and leaving people in fear of their lives.
Quote:
"They threatened and intimidated those who were going about their lawful business because they personally objected to the victims supplying goods and services to Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS).
"Those who have not been subject to such a campaign cannot understand how harrowing it is to be constantly on your guard against threatening letters and emails, vandalism to your home and car and even hoax bomb threats.
"Or what it's like to have your neighbours and employers told, maliciously and repeatedly, that you are a paedophile."
|
I can't see that they have actually achieved anything apart from giving legitimate Animal Activists a bad name..

Shame they can`t spend their time campaigning for the abused and assaulted children in this country. Priorities you know etc.

Re: Huntingdon Life Sciences hate plot campaigners jailed
Good. I hate SHAC.
We had a bunch of animal rights idiots outside our place a couple of years ago, & the company next door. Shouting & waving their placards (some SHAC, IIRC), oblivious to the fact that neither us nor the company next door had anything to do with animal testing whatsoever. Seemed to pass them by that biotech in Cambridge does not automatically equal animal testing. They got told to move on, as they were on private land, & eventually their rather lame & pointless protest dispersed.

Re: Huntingdon Life Sciences hate plot campaigners jailed
These people are in my opinion not animal rights activists, They are terrorists and should have been dealt with the same as terrorists. There intention was to strike terror in to the lives of innocent people doing a job.
Animal rights campaigners have the right to protest they don't have the right to do what these idiots did.
Glad there behind bars it's such a shame it is not for long enough .

Yes we seem to have interesting definitions of activists these days, call a spade a spade imo and bang 'em up.

I was actually agreeing with you, thought I was pretty clear as well, perhaps you couldn't see it due to the fox blood.

Re: Huntingdon Life Sciences hate plot campaigners jailed
What i would like to see is these idiots volunteering themselves for testing because if we didn't use animals for trying to cure disease then a lot more people including their own family members would die, bet they didn't think of that before they went out, long gone are the days of badly treated animals in testing facilities, they are treated very well now a days and they are all inbred so they wouldn't have even existed in the first place if they hadn't bred them

I don't think you really meant "inbred", did you?

Yes, but...
Much of the animal testing has nothing to do with saving human lives, more about meeting government regulations regarding safety testing. I mean, do we really need another type of shampoo?

Yes Hugh i did mean inbred, animals for testing purposes are inbred so they are genetically identical as this is better for testing

Re: Huntingdon Life Sciences hate plot campaigners jailed
I think you may be confusing "specially bred" with "inbred" - "inbred" can accentuate genetic deficencies, whilst "specially bred" is about consistency.

"systematic inbreeding and maintenance of inbred strains of laboratory mice and rats is of great importance for biomedical research"

Re: Huntingdon Life Sciences hate plot campaigners jailed
I stand corrected - my bro-in-law, who has been in medical research since the mid-80s, always refers to his subjects as "specially bred"....
