Re: help to buy a Graphics Card for under £100.00

For your budget you can get a GTS250 which isn't much of a jump from what you have at the moment (it's comparable to a 8800/980 gtx+) or a GTS 450 but i've not had any experiance with them so you would need to do a little research into its performance.

It doesn't really matter which manufacturer you go for as the cards are basically the same, usually just different coolers on them. go for whichever gives the best warenty for your price range.

Re: help to buy a Graphics Card for under £100.00

Remember that adding a more powerful new graphics card may also require a more powerful power supply... and may even require a more powerful power supply which has the extra lead to directly power the card.

I fell foul of those little problems....

But there is another solution: http://compreviews.about.com/od/case...ementalPSU.htm

okay you got the 8800 so psu shouldn't be an issue. Now i'm not that full of knowledge on nvidia but the 450 series should do pretty well

Re: help to buy a Graphics Card for under £100.00

If you can stretch a bit (or get someone you know to stick it through the business, saving the VAT) then i'd recommend a GTX460 like this one: Linkage

Re: help to buy a Graphics Card for under £100.00

If you want a new graphic's card, then really you should be looking atleast at a GTX 460 1gb version they, are around £150 but they offer massive improvement's over the GTS 450 and lower.

Re: help to buy a Graphics Card for under £100.00

the card i linked to 'only' has 768mb ram, rather than 1GB, but imo the extra £ simply isn't worth the extra couple of fps you get with the bigger card.

The 1gb version is not only more powerfull but uses less power and runs cooler aswell, as it is a slighlty different version of the Fermi chip.

Also I expect the price's of the 480's and 470's to drop when the rest of the 5 series come along, as you can get a GTX 580 now for £400 which is cheaper than some of the GTX 480's.

Also as for performance if they ever wanted to and had a sli board then 2 GTX 460's 1gb in sli perform far better than a single GTX 480 aswell, and cost around the same price.

Re: help to buy a Graphics Card for under £100.00

I bought a Gigabyte GTX460 1Gb OC the other week and it's excellent for the money (about £150 now). And I plan to SLI it next year when I've saved some more money.
