Is VM Security a resource hog ?

Hi I have VM security installed on a XP home machine with 768 Mb of ram and it seems to be using about 320 Mb of it. Is that correct as I would have thought a lot less as it is running in the background. Does anyone else use it and what are your thoughts please? Cheers

You need more RAM. 768Mb is barely enough for XP to run at it's best.

You have way to little RAM and should upgrade as soon as possible, run the Crucial System Scanner tool to find out if you can upgrade to what extent HERE

Re: Is VM Security a resource hog ?

767MB of Ram should be plenty to run XP for just normal use. Virgin PC Guard is a resource hog, you should get rid and use a less hungry alternative such as Avast Free or Microsoft Security Essentials. Maybe even Comodo Internet Security which is very light in day to day use.
Maybe use a lighter AV combined with sandboxie. Are you behind a router? If so you have inbound protection due to NAT (probably with SPI).

Every system is different and some may bog down one machine but not another, give a few a try and see which you like best.

While it is true that XP (along with other OSes) runs faster with more ram, 768Meg should be more than enough. I've run XP reliably (and quickly) on a lot less ram than that.

300 meg of ram is far too much for a security system to use. I use Avast and it's currently using around 20 meg of RAM. Comodo Firewall appears to be using another 15 or so.
