mikebore is an unknown quantity at this point
SMTP settings, authentication questions about the future.

I have a MobileMe account and an NTLworld account, all IMAP.

At the moment I can send email from either ntlworld.com or mac.com using smtp.ntlworld.com using port 465 (SSL enabled) with authentication off, using Apple Mail or Thunderbird.

If I turn authentication on, as per the recommendations, I can't send from either ntlworld.com or mac.com address. Get a message about the server not supporting authentication.

I am not surprised about this as I have seen various references to turning off authentication if it fails.

However I have also seen mention that at some point things will be changed so that authentication will be required (and will presumably work then) as in the recommendations.

Will I still be able to send email from the mac.com address when this has happened ?

Thanks for any inputs.
