By pre amp do you mean a mixer?
If you are connecting a turntable up to a pc via a mixer you need to connect one of the outputs on the mixer to the line in on your sound card. Then you will need some software to record with, I used to use Audio record Expert http://www.guangmingsoft.net/are/ with great sucsess.

Re: Can somebody convert vinyl to cd for me please?
I can do this.
I have a Linn Sondek turntable with a SME arm connected to a Roland AR-200 Compact Flash recorder / playback system. It's an easy job to put the card on my computer and burn this to a CD.
Just been listening to Rattus Norvegicus by The Stranglers that was transferred in this manner.

Right............ Going to try this again.
Dug out the Soundlab DLP 1600 and the preamp, got the software that Altis recommended so i`ll give it a go.
Thanks for all the offers of help but i must do this by myself.
On the back of the turntable is a ground post, where can i connect it to? Radiator, into the earth pin of a plug or what?
Thanks Bud.

Re: Can somebody convert vinyl to cd for me please?
Come on guys, where do i earth the tuntable to?
I tried burning a track from a LP tonight and i`ve got lots of `Hum` noise.
Using Audacity and the Creative xfi Sound card in the PC Via a Line in. What am i doing wrong?
I think the hum is due to the earth problem.
A bit of help here please.
Cheers.

Any decent earth should do, I seem to remember my hi-fi amp had an earth connector for just that purpose - if your radiators are earth bonded then that will work, or wire a plug with just the earth terminal connected to the turntable & plug it in to the wall.
