Sir Simon Cowell

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/...nighthood.html

I really think the Knighthood honour in particular is being overused. Even if this story turns out to be false I keep reading about people who may warrant an honour but in my view don't deserve a Knighthood.
Surely the Knighthood should be reserved as one of the nation's highest accolades but it seems like it's being handed out like sweets.

Simon Cowell has "arguably" (his phrase ) done a large amount for the British music industry and indeed some things towards charity. I do however question his motives for this. What has he done that doesn't directly benefit himself in some way - either financially or with publicity? He's pretty narcissistic isn't he?

Wouldn't an OBE be more appropriate?

Why don't "normal" people get knighthoods?

Re: Sir Simon Cowell

The are many who get knighted for no real reason and Ferguson the Man United manager is a prime example, he is a football manager albeit of a successful team but that still does not warrant a knighthood.

Rich people cant win. Raise loads of money for charity and supposedly leave £90M to charities in your will and you are seen to do it for publicity? I dont think he needs any more publicity. He gave £10k towards opening an animal sanctuary in Spain, maybe hes not like people think he is. With all the charity work I think he deserves it

Re: Sir Simon Cowell

If you're going to give a Knighthood to someone who has done so much for British entertainment, what about Bruce Forsythe?

He's a bloody legend in my opinion, a dear sweet man, who looks great in his syrup, Brucie gets my vote.

I see what you are saying but as nice as that is, its only money. Factored up due to his wealth of course. Leaving money to a charity in your will when you are dead is a great gesture (no matter how much) but do these things really deserve a Knighthood? I think not....

I agree Bruce Forsythe should be honoured....a Knighthood though??? Hmmm not so sure.

Mother Theresa? If she were able to be Knighted then - most deserving.

Are Mr Cowell and the good lady comparable?

Maybe he was offered one and turned it down.

Re: Sir Simon Cowell

A knighthood for knocking the final nails into the coffin containing the British music industry? yep it all makes perfect sense of course.
