All this tesla Hype seems Interesting

They claim to offer Personal Supercomputers

So check this and Imagine.. Druel along

98gb Ram
4 Quad Core CPU's On a motherboard with 4 sockets
2 tesla GPU's
2x LabelFlash Drives
Loads of cool fans I suppose
Wifi
Bluetooth
Card readers
20 Usb Ports
7.1 Audio

why would you want 4 quad core cpus if you are installing Tesla GPU based processors?

Tesla processors are Graphics Processing Unit (GPU):

Re: Nvidia Tesla Tech

yeah and you are talking to someone who does not have a clue aint ya lol

I know exactly what they are and do you not think when I put "Tesla GPU based processors" it kinda shown that?

The whole point of cluster processing is they do the processing in your workstation hence why I said why install 4 quad core cpus . Only the sequential work is done on the CPU and all the computational processing is done on the GPU .If you was not intending to use cluster processing and rather more conventional CPU processing then why install them?

Re: Nvidia Tesla Tech

I would assume the quad core CPUs would be more of an advantage if you were to use the machine as a server on the network you submit jobs to. It would still need a fair amount of processing power to manage these jobs, and that wouldn't necessarily be something that would make efficient use of a massively parallel processing system (which is what GPUs tend to be).

Also, most versions of Windows and Linux are not optimised for massively parallel systems.

Also, you may need a fair amount of processing horsepower to send and recieve data to/from the tesla system. After all, if you need the kind of processing power these things offer, you will be dealing with terabytes (possibly many terabytes) of data.

if you look on the nvidia spec 1 quad core cpu per Tesla GPU with 240 cores which is the highest end of the Fermi's IIRC? Also if you look at the systems being sold they appear in the main to ship with either 1 or 2 xeon quad core cpus and not 4

I looked at the option and they only give me the option of buying 2 quad cores aswell

Im just gonna assume its got 2 more slots for expansion

Wonder if it has expansion on Ram slots... just LOL

Re: Nvidia Tesla Tech

if you look at some of the huge machines from the UK suppliers some have got stupid numbers of CPU and Tesla cores but I am sure they are needed somewhere
