Avast Home and Vista SP1 auto update problem!

Just helped a friend install Vista and also updated it to SP1. He runs AVAST Home Edition so we downloaded the latest version and installed it but every time he boots into Vista Avast throws a red box up saying there was an update error, clicking the box doesn't reveal much about the problem.

Avast's auto update under his XP install works fine. I also installed ZA Free for Vista and disabled that but still got the same error. Also tried the options to tell Avast the PC is permanently connected to the net and the option in the Troubleshooting part to delay loading Avast. I've even seen an avast4.ini setting to delay checking for updates for 2 minutes, needles to say all these options do not work.

Anyone else with Vista SP1 and Avast Home Edition experiencing problems with the auto update?

Re: Avast Home and Vista SP1 auto update problem!

Fixed the problem, installed AVG 8 on his sytem and it's fine now!

Still not sure what was wrong but he's impatient and wouldn't let me sort it so opted for AVG 8 to shut him up

Exclamation Re: Avast Home and Vista SP1 auto update problem!

Zonealarm and Vista have problems working together. Avast is fine as far as i can tell and there are not that many users reporting faults. Service pack 1 for Vista Home Premium is reported to be problematic. Microsoft have provided a helpline.
Google:
Vista Zonealarm problems
Vista sp1 problems
