Question Moving house, keeping cable broadband. Can I get TV but without phoneline too?

Hi all, new here!

I am probably asking a really silly question, sorry.

Firstly, I joined Virgin Cable Broadband in June last year. I previously had phoneline broadband with Tiscali - let's not get into that, and I wanted to get Cable because I no longer wanted to keep my BT phoneline and to save money.

Anyway, I am moving house not this weekend but the next and I will obviously want to have Virgin cable broadband there too. I have checked and Virgin is available in that road, heck, the current tenants even have the connections in one of the bedrooms already! (I don't know if it's currently being used though).

I will be getting in contact with Virgin soon about changing address, but I was also thinking about getting their TV too. So, can I have just the cable broadband and TV? or do I have to have the phone too? . When I check their website it's always coming up with Broadband + TV + Phone. I guess it's because the TV services run through the phone line or something, like Sky (sorry to be so dumb, I haven't got a clue about this kind of stuff!). I'd prefer not to have to pay out for phone rental again, that's the main reason I went with cable broadband in the first place.

Many thanks

Hi and ,

You can get TV and broadband without phone, however you wont save much by not having the phoneline as with virgin, the more services you have, the bigger the discounts. It's up to you though.

I think the package tv phone BB is cheaper if you take the phone'cos you don't need it for the telly or broadband.

but others will be along to explain it bettera

....too slow, in I?

Re: Moving house, keeping cable broadband. Can I get TV but without phoneline too?

Thanks guys.

You're right, I wont save much (I managed to find out on their website, not sure what I was doing wrong before lol). For just Broadband + TV it will be £30.50 a month, but for Broadband + TV + Phone it will be roughly £30 a month! the difference being, with the BB + TV + Phone package I will get M TV, rather than the L that you get with just BB + TV package.

Will have to think about it now.

Rather than start a new thread... I'll ask here?

I will be having the Broadband cable connection in my bedroom because that's where my PC/Xbox will be, and I'll also have the Virgin TV in my bedroom too (will have regular Freeview downstairs). So if I get the BB+TV+Phone package, does the BB, TV and Phone all have to be installed in the same room? Prererably, I'd like the phone downstairs in the living room.

I have a set up similar to what you want.

They run a cable from the street into a box in my hallway.
1 cable runs from the box upstairs into bedroom one for broadband and TV.
1 cable runs from the box into my living room for HDTV and phone.
Just let them know what you want when you place your order.

As well as savings you'd get with having a TV/BB/Phone package, you also get to call VM free if there are any problems with either your services or you bill

Re: Moving house, keeping cable broadband. Can I get TV but without phoneline too?

I think I will end up going for the BB+TV+Phone package, it's £30 a month... and right now, just for my Broadband I am paying £20.

I'll probably end up getting it all installed in my bedroom then. I don't really want wires running around/through the house, as it's privately rented, not sure the landlord would agree to it.

Good point vOid! that will certainly come in handy. And it might be best to have the phone in my bedroom, if I am the one paying for it... it will stop my brother calling his friends mobile phones and racking up a massive phone bill! like he's done many times before lol.

Are you looking for just the normal tv channels ,say, freeview ?,if you are, then you can get that for free.

Just point your browser to http://tvcatchup.com or http://www.tvguide.co.uk ,under each freeview channel on tvguide (on the left side),you'll see "watch".Just click it to watch the live streaming freeview channel (soon they will be streaming HD channels too).

Free ,simple and dot on picture quality, can't get better than that and all down the same virgin media cable without having to take up any extra (paid )services.
