Re: Slow internet

Which broadband package do you have?

If you post your modem's upstream and downstream information somebody here can take a look and see if there are any problems with those. Open up your browser and type 192.168.100.1 into the address bar to access your modem's config pages. Do not post your modem's serial number or MAC address.

VM technical support will probably also ask you to run a test with your computer directly wired to the modem, to rule out any problems with the router. You may want to give that a go.

Re: Slow internet

ADSL LINK : Downstream Upstream

Connection Speed 7200kbps 448kbps

Line Attenuation 34.0 db 17.5 db

Noise Margin 9.0 db 23 db

And I have Wireless ADSL 2+ Modem Router model DG834G v5 --> NetGear

If there are some problems, so I'll need to call them or what?

Re: Slow internet

Ah, I'd assumed you were on the VM cable service, not ADSL. There may be somebody here who can advise you, but I'm sorry to say I'm not one of them.

Whenever I've phoned VM for technical support I've been unlucky enough to get through to one of the offshore call centres, who are pretty much useless (the UK ones are much better, but I never seem to get put through to them). I usually just go straight to the support usenet newsgroups now however I'm not sure whether there are any for ADSL users.

There are a few VM staff who are kind enough to advise people here - hopefully one of them will be able to point you in the best direction. Sorry I can't be more help than that!

Re: Slow internet

You might be further away from the BT telephone exchange in your new house and this will effect your download speed.

Your modem router says you are connected at 7200kbps 448kbps, but you are down at 500kbps download and 100kbps upload. May be you are being traffic managed for downloading to much, see Legal Stuff towards bottom of the page read: `Acceptable Use Policy' and `Subscriber Traffic Management Policy'.

Re online gaming: Turning Fastpath on will help, read the following thread from Overclockers forum http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=18042643. It will involve talking to Virgin Media, so brush up on your English or you make the initial phone call, go through the security checks and then you can pass the phone onto a friend so they can ask for you.
