The Equality Bill.
Quote:
The Labour Government’s Equality Bill, announced yesterday in the Queen’s speech, will actively discriminate against all white people in business and put large companies under a legal obligation to employ Asians or blacks rather than whites.
In terms of the Equality Act, companies will be “encouraged” to favour black and Asian candidates over white people when recruiting. In addition, where companies have a choice between equally qualified men and women, they are obliged to employ the woman.
To enforce compliance with that provision, the Equality Act will also order companies with more than 250 employees to have “gender pay audits.”
In effect this means that any company which does not actively discriminate against white males will be in contravention of the “gender pay audit” section of the act. In effect it means that any large company must discriminate against whites in order to comply with the law.

From that other political party.

Re: The Equality Bill.
That's just a sort of Dummies guide to the bill. not so much of the legalities of it. behind the scenes if you like.
An example of how this might work.
A company wants to hire a new manager.
Tom and Emma have applied for the job.
Both of them can do the job equally well.
All the managers in this company are men.
The company will be allowed to choose Emma to help make their company more equal.
Will be allowed as if they weren't allowed before?

Re: The Equality Bill.
If they are both equal they should both be set a test and the one who does best gets the job. IMO there is no such thing as positive discrimination.

You have to wonder how any sort of discrimination ended up in an equality bill, another example of Labours joined up thinking perhaps

Does anybody want to guess where Gary got his quote from?

No they were not.
However, the bill now allows an employer to freely make a decision, based on the diversity of his workforce and the community in which they serve.

If they are of equal ability, how would any test separate them? If one passed the test and the other didn't, they are not of equal ability, are they?

The Bill will not allow positive discrimination, which will remain unlawful. Positive discrimination means employing or promoting people just because they are from an under-represented group, even if they are less suitable. The Equality Bill will not allow this to happen and will not allow employment quotas.

Re: The Equality Bill.
This is what I found hilarious from the OP's quote:
Quote:
To enforce compliance with that provision, the Equality Act will also order companies with more than 250 employees to have “gender pay audits.”
In effect this means that any company which does not actively discriminate against white males will be in contravention of the “gender pay audit” section of the act. In effect it means that any large company must discriminate against whites in order to comply with the law.

Since when does "gender" mean colour?

Re: The Equality Bill.
By "gender pay audits", I read it to mean that women and men should get the same pay for doing the same job - what could be wrong with that?

Re: The Equality Bill.
Whilst the bill looks good on paper I can see the race thing been a big hit with non white people.
I see many different cultures get job where I work, the freeloaders who say they can't get a job is because they don't want to (all cultures do this)
I must say I don't like living in England as our history is been deleted, we are giving into other culture in case we are seen as racist, but this is our country we have laws and rules why should they be changed because another culture doesn't like it when they move here, simple soluation move back then.
I agree with the all sexs been equal, I never seen a black or asain or other race been turned down for a job because they aren't white, if this was happening we would see this all over the news.
If we moved to another country and tryed to change the laws then we would get told where to go, we should be like Austrila (they have right ideas)

Perhaps it's only non-white women who are to be given equal pay? But I still don't know where the jump from, "gender pay audits," to " any large company must discriminate against whites in order to comply with the law," came from. Or maybe I'm not reading it right. Do the Nazis think that gender means colour? Or do they think that only non-white women work?

You missed out the bit where amount of experience comes into it. Should a woman with only a month's experience be paid the same as a man with 10 years experience? IIRC there has been a recent ruling that time spent not doing the job counts as experience gained doing the job, of course this only applies to women, which is the reason it applies in the first place.
The 'equality' only goes in one direction. The comparison will only be made to raise female wages to meet male wages, but not to raise male wages to meet female wages.

Experience does not equal ability nor value. I know lots of people who have been in their positions for a very long time, but are not very good at their jobs and I know a lot of people who have been in their jobs for a very short time, but are better. Take, for example, Lewis Hamilton and Heinz-Harald Frentzen. Heinz has been driving in Formula One for many years and not won anything significant, whereas Lewis won the championship in only his second season (should have done it his first, but hey-ho). Surely you don't expect Heinz to be paid more than Lewis.
Did I miss something in the bill, which said this only applies to women?
