More connection problems!!

Seems my connection is playing up AGAIN! its been on and off for about a week now its getting worse.... I think i know whats causing it and thats my upstream power level...

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 1
Upstream Frequency : 25800000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 59.8 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

downstreams are....

Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 7
Downstream Frequency : 402750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Symbol Rate : 5360.537 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps32Increment4
Downstream Receive Power Level : 5.4 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 40.1 dB

The reason i think its this is because everytime the modem reboots it locks onto a different channel example over past 2 days...

Friday 24th after modem rebooted..

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 1
Upstream Frequency : 25800000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 51.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

Second reboot that day
Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 3
Upstream Frequency : 25800000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 57.8 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

Saturday 25th
Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 3

Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 49.2 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 2
Upstream Frequency : 25800000 Hz

Re: More connection problems!!

Well you certainly do need a new modem if it can't tell the time. Sunday April 19th and Friday April 19th on the same log, nice!

In other news the only minor error on there is from Friday the 17th where you lost synchronisation.

The modem can lock to a different upstream on each reboot it's not confined to one, and I'd go with tech support given the huge power differentials and the apparent inability of the modem to calculate the correct day of the week.

BTW your modem isn't locking to a different upstream it's the same frequency every time so I've no idea why your modem is claiming different upstream IDs for the same channel. Probably because it's FUBAR - that or the CMTS is. I know what my money's on.

Re: More connection problems!!

You need to call up tomorrow morning from 0800 unless you want to run the gauntlet of an Indian call centre now.

As your modem is trying to become extinct.

Or 151, free from a VM landline.

You don't need a log, just a modem or a tech.

Re: More connection problems!!

i rang VM this morning because i had a letter from them about updating my Direct Debit for some reason and i asked them to confirm the tech for thursday. NO TECH HAS BEEN BOOKED! i then booked one on the newsgroups for friday as they reckon its a localised fault. atm i dont know what to expect. I dont think its over subscription because of the way its acting in the daytime, for example i could try and use my connection at say 2pm and its really sluggish and i get about 4mb on speedtests and then 30 mins later my connection is perfect again and i get about 19mb on speed tests. What i have noticed tho is this, what tends to happen is if im browsing and openening a site the connection will freeze and page will stop loading and i will have to click refresh a few times and this is when my connection starts going wrong after the connection freeze. I have tried different browsers as in Firefox and IE 8 and i also nicked my brothers laptop last night and connected it str8 to modem via ethernet with no router and connection was fine until just after midday when it dropped to around 8mb when my modem rebooted.

Re: More connection problems!!

run a speed test just before midnight at it was 4.4mb/s, did a speedtest just after midnight and it was 19.4mb/s.. im wondering of there are some kind of STM going on over over subscription. I have been told that the 50mb equipment is currently being installed in swansea and is due to become active during the first 2 weeks in May.
