New tv but no hd
Hi
I hope someone can help. I bought a new HD ready TV yesterday and connected it to my V+ box.
I tried to change the settings on the V+ box so it would see my TV and I could get HD programmes.
The V+ box wouldn't accept it and returned to "normal" settings so I left it and was just pleased that I had managed to get everything back up and running.
This morning when I turned on the V+ box (from standby) a window appeared and said it had detected a HD TV attached and did I want to change the settings? I tried it again but it still didn't work - any ideas anyone?
The TV is a 32" LG.
Thanks
Pam

You have it connected via HDMI, yes?

Re: New tv but no hd
When Virgin came to setup my V+ box, they pluged my V+ box to my Sony TV with HDMI lead, they then turned TV on & selected HDMI channel on the remote (Source) & then V+ was setup. It was picked up without doing the Scart lead thing.
You tried this?

No I didn't press the text button - I thought you only did that when the picture came back i.e you press text to accept it.
I'll try it again when I get home - thanks

Re: New tv but no hd
The newer software should detect the HDMI and auto change to that but you still have to go to the setting screen and choose 720p or 1080i. and when it pops up to ask if you can see it you press the text button to confirm.
Do you still have a scart plugged in or is it solely the HDMI you are using?

Re: New tv but no hd
Hi Stephen - I did the changes that are necessary in the settings window and then pressed OK, all that happens is the screen goes black with white flecks/dashes going horizontally across the screen then the settings screen comes back again and everything is changed back to "composite" and "widescreen" etc ie. all the old settings.
I never got the window up that asks if you can see the screen and press text to confirm.
I have a dvd plugged into the TV via a scart lead but the V+ box is plugged into the TV via HDMI only.

When you press OK, you'll need to change the channel on your TV to the HMDI channel. (On my TV this is channel 'AV5').

Re: New tv but no hd
Thanks St. Geordie - I'll try that, will have to find out what the HDMI channel is on my TV then.
It's not quite as simple as Virgin make out then!!! Especially when you're as useful as a choclate teapot when it comes to TV things...I know how to turn it on and change channels basically!

I had exactly the same problems with my V+ box tuning it into my LG, it was only when I realised that I wasn't turning the setting from "TV" to "HDMI 2".
When I done this I got a picture, it did take a few seconds after changing to HDMI2 for the picture to come through though.
Hope its working for you now.

Re: New tv but no hd
In the top right corner of the LG remote, theres a button named "input". Thats the one you use to change the source. Press it and scroll through it until you reach the hdmi channels.

Re: New tv but no hd - now sorted
YEAH - A BIG THANK YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!
Yep it was me being really, really stupid
It is as easy as Virgin says it is, I wasn't changing the source/input to HDMI so thanks to you all for your input (pun intended)
I just told my sister and now she wants me to go and do hers, she has a Sony Bravia and can't get HD on it - at least I've got an idea of what to do now
Thanks once again

Re: New tv but no hd
Yeah, it was simple when I first got my HDTV.
Now all we needs is the channels to display it...
