Red face Web Page Issues (Not Loading)

I dont know what I have done, but everytime I try to goto Hotmail.com it wont load, MSN wont load either, and a fair few other websites I visit dont seem to work either.

I thought it was a problem with the routher so I un plugged it at connected the Modem direct to the PC.

Loads of webpages work, it's just a few, new ones I visit don't work, and I cant think why.

Outlook express can't access hotmail e-mail either, its like Hotmail got wiped off the Internet.

Is this a problem affecting a lot of people or is it just me?

Re: Web Page Issues (Not Loading)

Try flushing the dns and see if it makes any difference.

Start/run type cmd then from the prompt type ipconfig /flushdns (there's a space between g and / )

You need to run as Administrator in Vista or it will not work see link for clarification.

Re: Web Page Issues (Not Loading)

Did as Pedantic suggested as Admin, MSN Messenger still fails to log in, Can't access hotmail via Outlook Express and Hotmail.com doesn't load via any browser.

Really confused, it's like MSN no longer exists, not even Hotmail.co.uk works

Natwest and msn work fine here, instead of phoning Virgin 'at their stupid prices' why not try and solve the issue on your pc as IMHO that's where the problem is.

Well if it is the PC then all attempts to resolve it have been tried, I ran Spybot, cleared the DNS cache, I have done a system restore, and tried to access webpages in both IE, and Firefox.

Since this problem only happened when the router was dissconnected and the modem connected directly to the PC, I assume that casued a problem, but since doing that I have re connected the router as it was before, but it still doesn't work.

That only leaves me to think it's something to do with Vista settings and the Network, so unless I can find a solution I have no choice but to ring Virgin.

PS - http://155.136.80.213/ Doesn't work either in the browser.

That is the Natwest website.

Have you tried putting the Virgin proxy into your browser.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The proxy goes in your browser.

The proxy to use is : webcache.virginmedia.com

The port number is : 8080

How to set up proxy in Internet Explorer 6/7

Step 1 — On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings.
Step 2 — Under Proxy server, click to select the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box.
Step 3 — In the Address box, type the IP address of the proxy server. (e.g. proxy.abc.com or 202.188.17.24)
Step 4 — In the Port box, type the port number that is used by the proxy server for client connections (by default, 8080).
Step 5 — You can click to select the Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box if you do not want the proxy server computer to be used when you connect to a computer on the local network.
Step 6 — Click OK to close the LAN Settings dialog box.
Step 7 — Click OK again to close the Internet Options dialog box.

This has worked in IE, I can now access hotmail via IE. How do I apply this to Firefox? But also how do I apply this to all programs in Windows such as Outlook express which checks my hotmail & main mail account?

Things like Windows updater, MSN Messenger....

Thanks for that Moldova (Rated)

Re: Web Page Issues (Not Loading)

Here is a proxy add on for Firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2464

To enable proxy settings in Firefox 3.0

Select Tools -> Options. ( In some Firefox browser's you have to go to Edit>Preferences usually in LInux )
Select Advanced.
Open the Network tab.
In 'Connections' area click 'Settings' button.
Select Manual Proxy Configuration radio button.
In the necessary proxy field(s), put the same settings in the HTTP field then
Click 'OK'
