Internet stops loading pages.

I've been having the issue for a while now whereby..

I'll be browsing in Firefox, when out of the blue the page wont load and as apposed to showing 'Getting information from www.blah' at the bottom, it shows 'Stopped' or 'Done'. When I close firefox and attempt to reopen it, it gives an error saying it's still running but not responding, and refuses to close, even when (attempting to) end the process in the task manager - which doesn't work, it just wont go.

I have made no changes to the settings that I can think of, only change is that we recently got upgraded from 2mb to 10mb. Our modem is one of the really old Motorola surfboard ones.

The laptop in question is a Dell Inspiron 1520 I believe, I have tried everything to try and remedy the problem - new profiles, reinstalling flash, virus scans, netsh flush ect.

I should point out that this problem is much less common on the other computers downstairs (also running vista), but still occurs occasionally. And when this problem occurs, I can still use internet explorer (which I am doing, and for the mean time its working - same might happen to it too, however.) and other programs such as uTorrent, Email ect. Even the Apple download manager is still downloading.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks
James
