TV switching off

We have a problem with our virgin service.
Telephone not working and TV reception breaking up intermittently.
Virgin have been working on the problem since Saturday.
During this period the TV has taken to regularly switch off, apparently by itself.
Is this a sign of the TV going home or could it be caused by the intermittent cable fault.

Thats probably a fault on the TV as the STB would have no control over it.

Re: TV switching off

Willsie01 where abouts are you?

I'm in Glasgow and we have had a similar problem but it's only on BBC channels and it doesn't matter whether the signal is via cable or aerial. The TV blips off but comes straight back on again. Happens about every 10 minutes. Watched Eastenders and every ten minutes off it went. Switched to the Liverpool game on ITV last night and not a single problem. Switched to the BBC News and off it went again every 10 minutes. Tried BBc2 , 3 , 4 and all the same. Tried More 4, Sky Sports and others and all OK.

TV is a Sony KDL D3000

Truly bizarre.

We were going to get the TV looked at but I'm starting to think that there is something wrong with the BBC signal. As I say makes no difference if aerial or cable.

We don't seem to have a similar problem.
The TV switching off only happens (99% of the time) during commercial breaks! Therefore, it never happens when tuned to the BBC.
It has happened a lot while tuned to Setanta and to Sky Sports.
It's a total mystery. We can watch the first half of a football match with no interruptions, then at half time the commercials come on and the TV turns off 2 or 3 (or more) times. Then we can watch the second half without interruption. There's gotta be a logical explanation, surely.
Come on you lot in the know. Share.

Re: TV switching off

I wonder if it to do with the switching of the screen format from 16:9 to another format when the adverts come on? That's only thing I can think of.

Re: TV switching off

Ours now resolved. Software update on Monday went wrong. Sony advised to switch off at wall socket for one minute and seems to have worked.
