Re: SD Card on my new computer
I did mean storage - yup.
The reason I asked is that some card readers can't read larger SD cards (SDHC) but 1gb shouldn't be a problem.
I assumre it's been formatted and has pictures on it? I know it's a silly question but one worth asking.
The other thing is - you mention your cd. on my pc/laptop I have a little icon specifically for my card reader it's not the cd one are you sure you're looking in the right place?

Just double click on the icon for it in "My Computer"
I have a USB card reader, and when I insert the card, nothing happens apart from the name of the drive is changed to the 1 I named it when I formatted it in PC.
But as I said, try double clicking on the icon for it and it should open it up

Re: SD Card on my new computer
My 4GB SD card when first inserted in my laptop(Vista) and main computer(XP) triggers an Auto Play window. Other than that I access it by... start>computer>Removable disc(f)
I use mine in a combination of ways, the card holding both files from both computers and pictures from my camera. If you're supposed to format it then I must be lucky 'cause I just use mine straight out of the packet

Re: SD Card on my new computer
In Device Manager do see a SD Card Devices entry (i.e. listed the same as a Monitor, Mouse etc). If you don't it might explain it

So you don't even see the icon for your boot drive?
I'm not familiar with Vista, but in Windows XP the way I've described works!

Re: SD Card on my new computer
You shouldn't NEED to format it, but sometimes it can help.
I tend to reformat my 8gb card when it's been copied off after filling it up.
Not that I fill it up all that often, but I do take a bit of video with my camera - that takes up a fair bit of space.
