Question Microsoft Extended Manufacturers Warranty

Hey guys, my manufacturers warranty runs out on my 360 in April, now i know that they have extended it to three years because of the red ring of death, but im thinking if the DVD Drive fails or something that i will have to pay out £65 or whatever the cost is to get it repaired.

Is it a case of just phoning MS and saying i would like to take the manufacturers warranty in case something happens other than the Red Ring of Death?

Re: Microsoft Extended Manufacturers Warranty

If your 360 is comming to the end of its 3 year warranty with M$ you could "force" a ring of death and just get it replaced anyway, that way you'll get the latest rev 360 without a dodgy drive that likes to scratch discs.

Re: Microsoft Extended Manufacturers Warranty

If the 360 fails for any other reason, you force the 3 red rings and send it back under the 3 year warranty

You should have got a leaflet thing with your 360 about getting the extended warranty.

IIRC, it claims you only have the first month or so after purchase to fill it in & send it off if you want the extended warranty.

However, I know of people on other forums who have apparently phoned MS well into the initial standard 1 year manufacturer's warranty & still been able to take out the extended warranty.

Although, from my experience, the people on the phone can be quite clueless ("You want to know what? Why you haven't got your extended warranty yet? Eh? What extended warranty? [HOLD] Ah, what you need to do sir is go to the shop & buy one there...[more uselessness followed]").

It also seems to take a good few months for the warranty to actually go through.

When I took it out on my launch-day Premium, it took them a couple of months to charge my credit card, & I still have never received any info about the warranty (despite the leaflet saying something along the lines of "send us the coupon & payment & we'll rush you your service contract!!!").

When I got my Elite last November, I sent the extended warranty leaflet off with a cheque. The cheque has still not been cashed, I've not received anything, & service.xbox.com shows my warranty as still being standard.

I'm still waiting on them to charge me for my extended warranty, seems it still takes a few months for them to process.

Strange question, but how do you force the 3 rings of death?

You could deliberately cause it to overheat...

Re: Microsoft Extended Manufacturers Warranty

Well I asked because I got the 3 rings (twice), then it booted up as normal but froze everytime about 5 mins in (without the the flashing 3 rings).

Anyway, called them up and it's been taken away today for repair.

You can't really fault the service thought.

They have the money as of last week, not received any kind of correspondence from them yet though, do they actually send you anything? extended warranty card etc etc?

They're supposed to, although I never had anything for my launch-day 360.
