Mouse lag in certain games

I have been getting mouse lag (the game responds after I move the mouse) in certain games (HL2DM, COD4, NOT CSS) for some time now, and I have no idea what could be causing it. The FPS is always silky smooth so I doubt it's anything to do with my hardware. But then again?

If anyone has any ideas, that'd be much appreciated.

Try turning your mouse up to full speed, i love speed

Or try game settings, ive seen some games with mouse options for on how the mouse moves in gameplay

Wired. There's no lag on the Desktop.

any change in surface? problem is tying it down to the mouse isnt going to be easy does it run smooth in any high quality game?

just found this tweak hope it helps you out like it has helped me. When running games in OpenGl you might have problems with a laggy mouse + keyboard. This lag CAN be related to DirectSound a part of DirectX;
1. Go to DirectXDiagnostics; Start -> Run -> dxdiag.exe
2. Just go to the sound part of directx and disable sound acceleration (just turn sound acceleration slider all the way to the left)
This tweak clears up the laggy mouse issues in OpenGl games under XP

Yup, runs fine in CSS.

what else is running whilst you game?

run msconfig, stop all @ startup, then game - if no lag then slowly enable startup progs a few at a time and narrow it down that way - i had a similiar problem and it was my uGuru oc'ing software, removed and reinstalled and voila!

for cod4 do "render ahead 2" still get mouse lag do 1 don't go below 1 else might crash blue screen peoples reported this with nvidia

Thanks for all the suggestions. It seems Vertical sync was a big part of the problem, I'm not sure why. The screen wasn't flickering at odd rates.
