Exclamation Unable to access FTP, But can HTTP

I've tried contacting the hosting people i'm with but they advised me to contact my ISP, Who knows but any way.

The problem i'm having is atm i'm at my girlfriends, and I can't access the FTP server, yet I can access my website, and access cpanel. At home, I can access FTP, http and everything. But here, I can access other FTP's on port 21 (redhat and a few others). Just wondering if any one could shed some light on this problem?

Tracert:

Tracing route to ftp.swoopie.me.uk [92.48.64.140]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 * * * Request timed out.
4 8 ms 11 ms 8 ms nott-t3core-1a-ge-011-0.inet.ntl.com [195.182.174.209]
5 12 ms 8 ms 9 ms lee-bb-a-so-020-0.inet.ntl.com [213.105.174.169]
6 13 ms 13 ms 23 ms nth-bb-b-so-100-0.inet.ntl.com [62.253.185.101]
7 12 ms 30 ms 13 ms tele-ic-1-as0-0.inet.ntl.com [62.253.184.2]
8 * * * Request timed out.
9 * * * Request timed out.
10 165 ms 40 ms 24 ms . [92.48.64.140]

FTP addr (IP) is the same as the http addr.

Any ideas? I thought it could be the router at first, but it allows me to access other FTP's on port 21.

Thanks

Re: Unable to access FTP, But can HTTP

Does your GF's connection go through a router?? If so then the ftp mode that your ftp client is using might not be getting through (such as passive mode)

What happens if you ftp in via windows explorer? (not Iinternet Explorer)

Re: Unable to access FTP, But can HTTP

Windows explorer says:

---------------------------
FTP Folder Error
---------------------------
Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.

Details:
The operation timed out

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

FTP Rush:

[1] Connecting to 92.48.64.140:21
[1] Timeout, Connection closed
[1] Connection Timeout(10060)

cmd ftp:

ftp> o swoopie.me.uk
Connected to swoopie.me.uk.
Connection closed by remote host.

Tried with + Without Pasv.

I take it what you are saying is that you are hosting an ftp site, on your home computer, and that you have a router in the circuit to that computer?
I too had a problem trying to do just that.Without the router, it all worked fine. With the router, no way.I tried four different makes of router( D-link,Belkin, Linksys ,Allied telesyn)and failed totally to solve the problem despite spending hours on the phone to the various maker's helplines.
In each case I could manage it without the router, even when using two computers via simple networking, though my connection went down at roughly two hourly intervals. To get it back I had to disconnect one computer, switch off the modem and restart it.
I bought the router to cure that problem, which it did, however the can't connect to my ftp site and neither could anyone else fault then developed.
After involving the supplier of my ftp site software (Ipswitch WS_FtpServer), and having them fail to cure the problem,I gave up on the FTP site idea.
If you find a cure I would be more than pleased to hear about it, as I would dearly love to again host the FTP server. However having more than one computer reliably connected matters to me most.
Good luck with your quest. Please let me know if you find an answer.

Equally if anyone else can solve it I'd love to hear from you.I had been considering putting a thread on here about it, but hadn't actually done so.
