I want to replace my CRT Monitor
It's a 19" one and it's giving me headaches with the poor picture quality and being unable to read the smaller fonts in some of my art software which never seems to give me any options to increase the font size.So I'm going to have to go for a flat screen.Any one got any suggestions as to what I should be looking for?I want at least a 19" but without getting too expensive.I went to the Novatech website and I'm blinded by the science though the prices seem reasonable.I quite like the £112-£116 price tags but are they value for money?

These ( LINKAGE) are good, probrably the best budget 19" on the market.

Re: I want to replace my CRT Monitor
Both the above linked screens look ok, I have a widescreen Hanns-G 19" (HW191D), which I have been very happy with for over a year, now.
Couple of things, I'd imagine for artwork a 4:3 aspect would be preferable to a widescreen (16:10), widescreen is better suited for media playback (or wide spreadsheets), but is ultimately down to personal preference.
If your graphics card has DVI output then try to get a screen with a DVI interface - not only do you get a slightly better picture, but it is easier to set up.
If you intend playing retail high definition media (Blu-ray, etc), on the monitor at any point in the future, then the DVI interface must be HDCP compatible.
If you can, get to see one working before buying, which is where high street stores can have an advantage over mail order - and it is easier to take back in the event of dead pixels, etc.

You've gone with a good screen there Coggy, doubt you'll be disappointed, I have the 19" WS version of the Iiyama above and they definitely are good screens too, LG have made some good kit in recent years

it was nice enough in its day but 1440 x 900 is really something you regret buying later for many people looking to get some years out of new screens, zings 1280x1024 urls would really serve you far better later coggy...

each to their own, - I have no problems with 1440x900, but like i said before that is for media, not artwork, artwork may suit 4:3 rather than 16:10??

Re: I want to replace my CRT Monitor
Why. I prefer widescreen monitors these days, perhaps because everything else I look at is widescreen and the natural human viewing angle is widescreen.
I would think for art it might be usefull as you can have menus, pallets, brushes, toolbars and junk on a side of the screen and the more paper shaped screen in full view for working on, but that depends on the layout of the software etc.
I gather some games don't like 1440 x 900 but again not a problem for the OP, also others have hacked the game configs to make use of the widescreen layout, more details of weapons / health etc on a side of the screen.
I also have the screen that homealone has and think it great.

I do like the bigger resolution for working in art packages but I'm mainly looking to get a CLEARER picture at the end of the day and I want to use a local firm who have given me excellent service in the past.I merely was asking for some help with making sense of the science.Which I got.Thank you all very much indeed.
As it is I'm having a grief off hubby for doing this as the old monitor ISN'T broken so he's been no help despite the fact he's been repairing flat screen monitors for years.

Re: I want to replace my CRT Monitor
1440*900 Widescreen = 1296pixels
1280x1024 (4:3) = 1311 Pixels
not exactly a lot more, just arranged differently.
The lack of flicker etc on a TFT make them so much more comfortable to use for long term viewing.
