problem with MSIE an d firefox on same machine

I used to run a home made desktop which had been running pclinux for some time and which id grown used to.

I then decided that as that was an old machine,id buy a new lappy.

The lappy has Vista premium on it.
Ive been running it for about 6 weeks now and have since loaded firefox and thunderbird as i prefer them.

It seems to me that these two are fighting with eachother becuase there seems to be conflicts.

For example, some websites can be viewed on one and not the other.

It isnt just an html compatibility thing. The browser actually locks up and i get the old MSIE or firefox is not responding message, then the windows is looking for a solution, then the browser shuts down.

Another curiosty,,i have a website which was created on this machine using frontpage. If i enter the URL of that page into my firefox browser, the remote website doesnt load, firefox dims and eventually i get the firefox is not responding message.

Strangley,if i load up MSIE, i can view the remote website no problem!

Does this sound familiar to anyone? To be honest id rather run firefox than MSIE.

The other issue is that norton internet security came preinstalled and its wrapped round MSIE.

This is very strange. I would get rid of Norton if you are not using it. Uninstall it, then find a removal tool from the Symantec website.

Good alternatives are AVG (free), AntiVir (free) and Kapersky (not free, but best)

If you mean NIS has 'branded' IE7 with its own Title Bar & Throbber, then you can remove them by deleting the following registry string values:

Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
BigBitmap
BrandBitmap
SmallBitmap
SmBrandBitmap

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
BigBitmap
BrandBitmap
SmallBitmap
SmBrandBitmap
Window Title

Uninstall firefox completely. so get rid of all firefox folders.

re-install.

then add this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419

you can use IE within FF.
