i barely watched any of the last series, i just want to keep up with what's going on so i have a better grasp for season 3! shame i wasn't paying any attention to 'the lost experience' either - did anyone here?
The first episode of the 3rd season starts at the start of lost. The same time point as S1.1; we see the Others enjoying their civilized life listening to CDs having a book club in a surburban looking home when all of a sudden they hear that noise that crashed the airplane. They show the plane break in half and camera pulls back to show where the Other camps were in relation to where the LOST people crashed.
Behind the Black Mountain is a village with houses a bandstand manicured grass etc.
Henry Gale (showing he is the leader of the others) dispatches Ethan to integrate with the front of the plane and another one (whose name I forgot) to find out about the tailiey and report back.
Fastforward to present and we see Jack in a darkened cell which is later revealed to be underwater (when the silly boy does not listen and opens the door), Sawyer is in a bear (polar?) behavioural cage and Kate, well Henry Gale or "Ben" or perhaps Benry gets her showered, dressed in a dress and takes her to breakfast on the beach. The Other that appeard to be the leader back in S1 where they drew the line that the group should not cross appears to be more of the heavy / business manager of the group, he was the one watching (and one of 4 escorting kate down to the beach).
The Others seem to have access to the outside world having a big fat file on Jack, his life, education, wife divorce etc.
Lots of Jack flashbacks his life his meltdown at the time of his divorce.
So we see they others live well. They tell the Kate that the next 2 weeks will be hard (test that will be performed on them?). We see the inside of the Hydra which has been speculated for a while and clues as to the Polar Bears and Dharma shark (though they also mention Dolphins).
It is inferred that Juliet the woman befriending Jack and Ben (Henry) seem to have been a couple but now are not.
There is another captive (or is it an other?) Karl what is that about. The locks on Sawyers and Karls cages can be picked with a paperclip.

Re: The LOST (TV) series - Season 3 (spoilers)
And also.....
Spoiler:
The island is hidden from the outside world somehow by the magnetic field surrounding it - typing the numbers in keeps it hidden, that's why the two men in the monitoring station picked up a reading and contacted Desmond's wife.
