Cool Need a POP/SMTP provider

I'm not fussed for the domain name headache - I just need a POP and SNMP provider. Or at least POP. My current provider is calling it a day Suggestions?

Re: Need a POP/SNMP provider

No one?

I just need email access. I know NTL/Virgin provide email accounts - but I want something seperate. Also want to avoid the big names like Hotmail and Google.

Suppose I could use a domain name I'd have to setup a PO Box though. Quickly becomes pricey.

hiya

looks like it 'might' be ok, but I haven't tried it.

- personally I would recommend Googlemail.

Otherwise the alternative, as you say, is getting a domain name hosted

Re: Need a POP/SNMP provider

Googlemail - I'm too much of a conspiracy theorist. Going to have to be a domain name then. More hassle and expense

Re: Need a POP/SNMP provider

I want a seperate account for professional purposes - one that I can rely upon and can easily whinge about if things go wrong. NTL turned on spam filtering with no discussion what-so-ever, which says it all. And if I did have a problem, I'd have to talk some bloke reading a script. No ta.

I'd be surprised if that would work, you normally have to be dialled in to use an ISP's pop and smtp servers. My own ISP doesn't allow you use the email system, unless you have login details, or take out an email package subscription.

I think that is what the zingle means?

-you can sign up for a 'package', i.e. a dial up one, which is never used, which will get you the email addy & website .....

Re: Need a POP/SNMP provider

Have a look at www.1and1.co.uk for hosting. They do a £1.99 a month (currently 25% off at £1.49) deal. That'll get you some webspace and 20 email addresses. Need a domain name on top of that mind, but a co.uk one is only £1.99 a year.

Yes you can obtain an email addy, but unless you actually use their dial up settings, many ISP's will reject any attempts to send email using their SMTP servers. This is to stop spammers from setting up email addresses, and sending mail from outside of the ISP's network.
