Question Digi-Text (Teletext) ?

Any idea if or when the teletext will get sorted out on Virgin Media cable ?

Every now and again i try presing the teletext button on the cable remote control, but all i ever get is the same message. Will they ever get it working ?

Not unless they change how they transmit the data that goes with the channels.

Re: Digi-Text (Teletext) ?

I don't understand. You would have thought they could give the text button some sort of functionality. It would be better than just saying "Text is not currently available".

Count yourself lucky; I don't even get that message.

Re: Digi-Text (Teletext) ?

My NTL/Virgin remote doesn't even have a Text button on it.

The remote for my old Pace box used to have a Text button on it, but the newer remotes for the Samsung boxes don't seem to.

Do you have a pic of the Samsung remote please? The reason I ask is because I have a very old ntl one which seems to stop working randomly and I'm thinking of getting it replaced, just want to know what it will look like.

Which remote are you talking about? My Samsung has the blue shark and there is a text button on it?

Re: Digi-Text (Teletext) ?

I thought you could only get two kinds of remote. The very old black one and the new silver one.

The new Virgin Media remote is the same design and layout as yours, except the Home button is now the Text button (bottom left), Guide is now Home, the arrow buttons are now marked Stop, Pause, Play, Fast Forward, Rewind and the ntl:home logo now say Virgin Media.

Re: Digi-Text (Teletext) ?

There are three different major kinds of remote, some with some variations in and of itself.

Black (usually in bromley areas for PACE boxes - north west, london etc).

Blue/Purple - Langley as standard for pace and samsung boxes, samsung boxes in bromley. This type has a couple of different iterations, the older kind with simple arrow buttons around the select button (this one I beleive has a text button) and the newer one where these buttons have play, fastforward/rewind etc. The latter has no teletext button.

Silver remote - PVR boxes (no text button)

There are currently no plans to provide teltext over the digital feed that I am aware of. This is because it is generally held that teletext is in the process of being taken over by interactive DTV services (even though afaik, teletext has more content than interactive). Further, with the loss of the analogue signal for terrestrial TV in what, 2012? I don't see it being introduced.

You can get teletext by using the RF cable from the back of the box to the TV - this will give you signal from the analogue feed if available (sometimes it has problems). Further, certain models of TV can take analogue signal from scart input too, so I've been told, but I've never seen this to substantiate it myself.

If you do setup teletext in any way with the DTV service though, Virgin cannot support it, if you call in, you may get some advice, but you won't get a technician.

Hope that helps.

Have now got an LG & before that a Bush both took/take an analogue feed - must have come via the box (was Pace now Samsung) because I had no other signal (on the Bush. LG has freeview with its own source now). I think the engineer put some thing on the sammy to make it do this . Because he said O you have one of those (cant remember what he called it) on the back I ll put it on the new box. He bolted on a small silver fitting cables run from/to it?
