Can i cancel if within 30 days of connection

Hi, i was previously with Telewest and when my contract ended on Feb 18th i renewed with Virgin . My services were installed on Feb 21st and i was wondering, am i in a 30 day period when i can cancel without any hassles?Reasons for leaving are the Sky situation and slow internet speeds (on 10mb probably getting an average speed of more like 2mb).Thanks

You might like to speak with CS first though - and check your speeds, if you leave and go to ADSL then you'll get nothing like the 8MB thats promised.

What I hate is the time honoured practise that many companies employ of making you write a letter to cancel your services.

They do this because they realise that no-one has a clue how to write a letter anymore (apart from pensioners) and will probably just carry on with their sub-standard services instead of attempting it.

NTL/VM are slightly different in the fact that they employ someone to argue on the phone with you that you are not unhappy and that your service is not poor and that you are not frustrated at never getting your problem fixed. Then when all else fails and they realise that they can't talk you round, they transfer you to someone else and then the line goes 'mysteriously' dead.

Absolute claptrap. Writing and sending a recorded delivery letter covers both parties.

Yes, but clearly it is a deterrent to cancelling due to the fact that it is a lot more hassle than simply cancelling on the internet, or even phoning to cancel.

A lot of people don't have access to a printer in order to send a typed letter and will probably be too lazy to hand write one. Companies know this.

im sorry but i disagree. if someone is too lazy to get a piece of paper, write their account number and "i would like my services disconnected on said date, this includes my 30 days notice and you can collect your equipment on X" then there really is something wrong with the world, you dont need to write an in depth essay as to why you want to cancel, its just notification.

the reason you wouldnt be able to do it online is due to DPA, its much harder to confirm that the person says they are over the internet, over the phone they can ask questions which only the account holder should know, and if its done by letter they have the signature should the real account holder come back and claim they didnt ask for the account to be disconnected

But a lot of people are lazy, I'm sure you will agree. Writing a letter may involve them having to go out to the shops to buy paper, envelopes and a stamp. Then they have to write the letter and then go post it. They don't want that, they just want to be able to phone up and cancel whatever it is.

Trust me I have seen some letters in my old Ntl days! There is no need to buy paper or envelopes just use what's in your house. I had one once that came in on a paper napkin returned in the Ntl envelope with the address scrawled on it!

I suppose you can categorize these people under 3 headings: Lazy, not lazy and crazy.
