TVDrive remote freezes up

Hello everyone. New here so a big Hi to all.

I have a NTL TVDrive installed for a few weeks now but the remote singal (not the picture) seems to be stuck a good few time every night.

For example: you browse the channels but get stuck at certain page and none of the buttons would work for like a couple of minutes. The TV picture keeps going though.

Anyone experienced the same? It is a technican job...? I really don't want to wait for them to turn up again.....

Look forward to your comments.

Re: TVDrive remote freezes up

It's called V+ now by the way, not TVDrive

Next time you have the problem try to see if the channel +/- buttons work on the front of your set-top box, if the channel changes you need new remote batteries...

if the channel still freezes give Virgin a ring and b****ck them

Re: TVDrive remote freezes up

Seems to have got worse since the new EPG was rolled out.

Worst delay I have experienced so far was 3 minutes yesterday between pressing the down button in the guide and it moving down the channel listing.

Re: TVDrive remote freezes up

Cheers guy. It's definately not the battery.

rince: it has got worse for me as well. When it was first installed, it only happened a few times. Now? almost every other time you browse the guide.....

Oh well, at least it's not just me. A problem shared is a frustration halved.

This problem makes me soooo angry. How can any group of self respecting software engineers even begin to imagine that the code in the V+ box is fit for purpose? They should hang their heads in shame.

Re: TVDrive remote freezes up

If this is the problem i'm thinking of,and one I get some nights, then it happens just after midnight. What happens is that at midnight the V+ box starts to update the epg,at least this is what i've read, and for some reason causes the box to become unresponsive. The trick I've learnt is that if you push a button and nothing happens, just wait for it to respond, and don't keeps pushing the buttons in the hope of getting it to work, because the box then has a complete fit trying to catch up with all your button pushes.

Re: TVDrive remote freezes up

Ive had the silver V+ (TVDrive) since early Jan and the remote problem only ever became apparent at midnight.Since the Virgin EPG update, the remote lagged every 60 secs...totally unusable.

I have since formatted the hard drive and now it hasnt locked up once.

Re: TVDrive remote freezes up

The V+ boxes are slow to respond and change channel due to the way that live and delay tv operates.

When you change channel, the box has to stop recording, close the file it's recording to, change channel, open a new file and begin recording again.

There are some other problems with random lockups but they are being investigated and will be resolved soon.

As for the lockup around midnight - this is due to the box downloading extra program data and the fact that when this occurs, it has a high priority in the processor.

This fault has got worse since the box was updated with the new guide. Happens almost every day. Timing varies
