Re: Modem Help

Sorry, but any ntl/Telewest modems for sale on Ebay & elsewhere are still actually the property of ntl/Telewest - they shouldn't actually be on Ebay etc.

Each modem is linked to a specific account, & must also be activated/registered by ntl/Telewest.

You cannot simply buy a modem off Ebay & expect it to work - it won't.

If you want a cable modem, you'll have to sign up with ntl broadband.

If you already have ntl broadband, & just want a different modem for some reason, then ntl should change yours if your existing one is faulty or too old to handle the new speeds.

I'm very sorry but you won't be able to get it to work as it has to be activated by NTL. The modems on eBay are NTL property and they are illegal so you have wasted your money.

I'm to slow again

Re: Modem Help

Hi there,
If you are currently paying NTL for a broadband service, they will supply you with a modem.
The modems supplied to you are registered specifically for that address and account holder so you have to go through NTL.

to the forums.

Re: Modem Help

Buy a router, or wireless router.

Re: Modem Help

Yep, as Hom3r says, a router is your best option.
Even if you do contact NTL for an additional modem, you will be charged for having 2 broadband services due to having two modem connections.

A router plugs into your NTL moodem and then you can connect each of your computers to the router.
You can either do this with Ethernet cable. It is cheap to buy and run it from the router into the back of your PC's ethernet card.
Or.... Buy a wireless router and stick a wireless card in your PC.
