STB upgrade to Modem pain is the a**e

Had the deeply anticipated upgrade today so I can have 2MB BB.
As usual the engineer installed the modem and disappeared quickly just in case the pc couldn't see anything out there in the big wide world.

it couldn't.

So on the dog and bone to India (what was your name again, could you spell that? oh never mind!!!)
Tried this, tried that and tried the other, no joy, "you must go and get your pc checked by a pc technician".
"My pc is fine - it was getting an ip address off the STB ok this morning, but because it can't get an ip address off the modem suddenly the pc is at fault, I don't think so."

Hung up on them and did my own r&d.
Turns out to be the cable.
Now why would a cable work with stb (new Pace, I tried it with and without crossover just to be sure) and not with modem.
I've no idea but it works.
Oh, haven't bothered trying the new cable with the STB, too much hassle.
Onwards and upwards

Re: STB upgrade to Modem pain is the a**e

Did you switch the modem off when changing cables? As this may have worked it's magic in detecting the pc correctly. Technically it shouldn't have made anything work at all. But hey.

Glad you got it working

Actually, did he test his laptop to the modem to check the connection before he left? If he did, the modem will have "learned" his laptops unique MAC address and held onto it. when you switched it off, it forgot this, and instead went onto yours.

switched the modem on and off with the old cable and disconnected/reconnected with the old cable but it just wouldn't have it.
He tested the modem (or the modem to wall cable) with some yellow box thingy wotsit but I don't remember him using a laptop.
Yep, I'm glad it's working too...however...I have an EDIMAX router which works for about a minute then gives up, so I'm bypassing the router at present :S

Was the Router in the loop when you switched to the SACM?
