BB - No connection - Please Help!

I have been having problems since connecting my xbox 360. Basically I only had 1 ethernet card in my machine which my ntl bb was using (my modem is ntlhome 200 (351000)) and I wanted to connect my xbox to the PC so that I could browse my music and pictures. I took my bb from the ethernet port and linked it to the usb port which was problematic and then connected my xbox to the ethernet port.

I got the setup working ok for a time although I couldn’t connect to xbox live is the wife was on the internet.

Anyway the problem is now that I don’t have an internet connection at all! it did work intermittently for a time but has decided to pack in all together.

I tried changing my internet connection back to ethernet with no joy at all and last night the modem decided to have a mess about and the rdy light was flashing like a strobe light!!!

I used cmd and tried to ping a website, at first I was getting packet loss about every 7 seconds but as I tweaked (or messed up more like) with thing I would be getting packet loss and then request timed out and now I get no connection at all.

I would be grateful for any hints or suggests that you lads/lasses may have and sry about the long post - I’ve tried to keep it as brief as possible.

Thanks

Re: BB - No connection - Please Help!

to the forum.

The easiest way to connect both an XBox and a PC (or any other devices) to the modem is to buy a router. This router MUST be Cable or Ethernet compatible (ADSL routers won't work).

If you don't do that, the only way currently available is to connect the PC and Xbox up as you have, but only use one at a time, and reboot (switch off/on at the mains) the modem each time you switch.

However, I think the fact that your Rdy light is flashing might indicate a problem on the connection, so it might be worth calling Faults to get them to test it.

Re: BB - No connection - Please Help!

Thanks for the reply Stuart,

rdy light is back to normal now but I agree that it does appear to be a connection problem.

I have now removed my xbox connection and I am just trying to concentrate on getting my internet connection back up and running. Do you know of anywhere to completely remove any all my previous drivers and setting and just try and start again from scratch?

Thanks again for your help

Hmmm, I wonder if it has taken the MAC address of your Xbox as the registered address for your internet... I would connect everything back up to the PC and then turn off your cable modem for about 5 mins and then turn it back on.... This clears the entries in the modem and will startup again with your PC MAC address etc... I have had this problem but not with an XBOX.

You can't go wrong with the DSL router that PC World are selling for £39.99 which includes a USB adaptor for another PC/Laptop.... I have one of these as my last DLINK packed up... Very easy to setup if you are unsure on how to configue a router... This would be ideal to connect your XBox up to as it would allow upto 4 cable connections and offer wireless if required.

Thanks for that underwood, I am leaving work at 13:00 and I will try that when I get home. If I have any luck I will post back this afternoon - otherwise it will be tomorrow. Thanks again
