Ethernet and Wireless Connection Question

Is it possible to set it so that files transfer to another computer through and ethernet cable and anything else through a wireless connection like browsing?.
I often have to transfer files (a couple of gigs worth) to another hard drive to make space and to sort them out, but its slow wireless compared to when it was on an NIC cable connection, and it seems to effect the router for the other users in the house. Easiest solution would prob be to just use the NIC for both functions, but would prefer to have it the way I'm wondering.... would it be possible?.

Re: Ethernet and Wireless Connection Question

I don't believe you can assign specifc adapters for specific tasks, although there may be software for it out there.

However, I do believe you can balance the load between the two adapters (known as load balancing) so Windows will automatically split the traffic directly in half between the NIC and the wireless card. See here for information: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/951/

Re: Ethernet and Wireless Connection Question

It might be possible by some separate software like Jani's Load Balancer or something on a much higher level (such as by port) but it isn't doable by the default Install of Windows.

Re: Ethernet and Wireless Connection Question

Each card (enet & wireless) will have a separate local IP addresses, so you could set the routing to use the wireless card by default and ftp into the enet card when you want to copy files. Not trivial but it could work. Google the 'route add' command if you want to try it.

I've had a google about and from what I can make out, it seems a bit too complex for me nevertheless, i'm grateful for the response
