I have two computers working off one router. One of the computers is currently not working (described in the other thread I started and still not resolved). The router has remained on throughout the debacle. When, and if, I finally get the problematical computer functioning again can I expect to have the same IP address operating on the machine?

Assuming your router is also your DHCP host, then it depends on how it was set up.
If the lease time was set to 'forever', then you may expect the same IP address (assuming you haven't changed the network card - usually the IP address is assigned according to the MAC address.)
Normally yes you would still have the same IP address on the computers linked to the router. If the PC that is working is left on all the time then it will keep the IP address it has now and the second unit will be given an IP address by the router when it is powered up again.
I have found my Linksys WRT54G is very slow to reassign IP addresses even though they renew every 24 hours.
I added a buffalo linkstation to the network this weekend and despite the Server, the Iomega Net HDD and the second laptop having been off the network for over a week it gave the drive an IP ending 106 (i.e the 6th device connected).
It almost seems to be a semi static approach until it runs out of IPs to allocate.
