MSN Messenger Issue

Hello,

I am having some weird issues with MSN Messenger these past few days. The problem is that it only shows contacts by there e-mail not sign in names, and there seems no option to change this.

I have uninstalled and used System Mechanic 4 pro, to remove all unused registry keys, and reinstalled and still got the same issue.

Makes things hardwork as I am unsure sometimes who is who on my list.

Anyone able to offer some advice onto this please?

Have you tried

2) Go to your contact list, if you are not already there
3) Click Contacts on the menu bar (where File View etc.. are)
4) Then click on Manage Contacts
5) then View Contacts by
6) and lasty, click on Display Name

Clear out un-needed registry entris and remove any cr*p entries and it can make a difference.

Re: MSN Messenger Issue

Does anyone know how people who you have on your blocked list "see" your username and tagline (if using MSN7).

Does it update their tag when you update yours or do they only have it from the last time you signed in when they werent blocked and they were logged on?

P.s. Would have repped paul but i need to spread it around...

Re: MSN Messenger Issue

They see no change to the tag line until you unblock them as far as I know otherwise blocking them would make little sense lol.
I would say that when they log in messenger would give the information that is in your tag line and that would be it until you unblock your contact as it would have no reason to update the information.

Re: MSN Messenger Issue

I would have to check to be sure but it may well be that since your contact would not be able to update it's information from your MSN details it is possible that they would only see the information that they saw the last time you unblocked them. If I get a minute I'll have a tinker with Chi's messenger while she isn't looking lol
edit
Just checked and all they will see is what was displayed the last time you were showing as online to them. Even if you change while showing offline your info will not change to them until you unblock them again.
So to clarify, your display information will not update for blocked contacts until you unblock them.

Re: MSN Messenger Issue

Superb - thanks mate - thats what i thought should (logically) happen as any other method would allow the other person to see that you have been online, at least since the last time they were on.

Also - i wondered about tags as well, when im online and listening to my tunes it shows up in my tag and of course the tag changes every couple of minutes, therefore the blocked person could just log in and out a few times over the space of a few minutes and check if your tags changing.

Que mayhem and hissy fits.

Would be a great blocker then really would it.

Re: MSN Messenger Issue

Various tools are available to tidy up the registry
http://aumha.org/downloads/ntregopt-setup.exe
http://www.pcprivacysoftware.com/files/regrescue.exe
http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm
are just a few that I googled for
Whatever tool you use though, always backup the registry first just in case
