Re: Avi to DVD??

i use tmpgenc, which will give you very good quality if the source files are good... though it's not the most user-friendly of apps.

Re: Avi to DVD??

if you have nero then download nerovision 3:

http://www.nero.com/en/Nero_6_Reloaded_Update.php

i use it and it has been excellent if the source quality is good then let nero do it automatically.

Re: Avi to DVD??

With Nerovision express you can add your AVI video files and burn it to dvd. It will transcode the files so your dvd player should be able to play it.

if you have sufficient bitrate from the source file then its fine, ofcourse you can sometimes get some fine pixellation, but generally ive had no problems, if there is enough buffer (leeway) given the bitrate loss wont affect the final product much, but the new version of nerovision is much more efficient.

Depends on the quality of the source file/codec and the software you use.

Never had a problem with Nerovision Express.............
.........but as they say "s*** in = s*** out"

Re: Avi to DVD??

check out your DVD player - I was having trouble transcoding using nero to transfer an AVI to DVD so in the end I just copied the AVI to an ordinary CD/R - my DVD player played it with no trouble at all.

it'll only be as good as the source video quality. if the source is good and you stll get artefacts, get a better program!

computation time matters too, for really good results tmpgenc takes around 4x as long as the vdeo length to convert to mpeg2, on my xp2000+. it can be done much faster, but you're more likely to get artefacts...

a small minority do, most DVD players which are at the cheaper end of the market dont, but you can get ones such as this that do:
