help please - wireless connection but with bt router

Can anyone help please.

I currently use bt broadband at work with a wireless connection that looks at a bt1800hg router. This works fine.

At home I connect to telewest broadband via an ethernet cable (trailing across the lounge!) The cable that comes from the wall to the telewest modem is a white cable with a metal prong! sorry dont know the proper name.

I have a spare Bt Wireless router 1800 that I can use at home if its possible to set up.

Is it possible to somehow connect the BT wireless router to my telewest cable
or do I need to buy a special type of wireless router to be compatible

Any advice on the cheapest way for me to set this up would be grateful.

I am no expert here but at least my reply will get this thread back to the top.

As far as I can tell the BT kit you refer to is a HUB.

And a quote from here says that The 1800HG Wireless Home Hub is only suitable for use with BT Broadband.

So guessing it only works with BT Broadband.

The white cable trailing across your floor to your modem is probably coax cable.

Looking at that link, in spite of it's name, it IS a router. However, given that it comes with RJ11 cables, etc, I suspect it is an ADSL modem/router and hence not compatible with cable. Quite why it only works with BT Broadband (you need a different one for BT Yahoo!) is not clear.

Basically, you need a router with an RJ45 (Ethernet) WAN port to connect to the cable modem or STB. ADSL modem/routers have an RJ11 ('telephone') port to connect directly to the BT line.
