ordering broadband through phone

Hi all

My friend have just ordered bb through the phone. The problem is that when we checked if he can have an internet from ntl on their website (by tapping postcode) there was his street name but no his home number. When he called 0800183123 sales person told us there is no problem having internet in that flat. He gave him an account number and installation date on tuesaday 12-18. Is it possible that he is wrong and there is no possibility of having internet in that flat if there is no flat number on ntl website? My pal gave him Ł50 payment in advance (direct debit). If there is a problem with installation do you think he can easily get his money back?

Thanks to all anwsers.

Hi Wlodar,
As far as I know the postcode checker on the website is a different database than the SABS system (ntl's internal billing/install system database) so I would think his install should be ok. If not then it may take a few days getting the money back but ntl should be able to do it via a return cheque or refund back to the credit card or whatever.

(Notice I said SHOULD! )

Re: ordering broadband through phone

If I use the postcode checker it doesn't list my house number or my daughters across the road in the drop down box. We both have some NTL services.

Re: ordering broadband through phone

i have another stupid question - is it possible that ntl can charge my friend monthly even if he is not going to have broadband installed ( sales person on the phone gave him account number) or ntl must have confirmed installation to start charging their customers?

Ntl cannot charge for a service they are not able to provide.

Re: ordering broadband through phone

Hi wlodar,
Don't worry your friend canot be charged without the install being closed down on the billing system (Sabs) So if the install fails then no charges can start, if the install is actually done and closed on the system then charging will start. Of course an install can be closed down without being completed but this is very rare!
Although with the stuff I have seen happening recently at ntl I cannot completely promise anything really!
