DVD Recorders

Has anyone tried linking a dvd recorder with ir sender to a stb so that it tunes the stb to the right channel? I understand that the Pioneer DVR520H, Toshiba RDXS32 and Sont RDRHX900 all have this facility but I'm not sure whether this will work with my stb (PACE).

Unlikely, afaik.

Digital Sender IR relays used to have problems with NTL STB's because most of the use IRDA rather than standard IR, iirc. Some more details here http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...ad.php?t=24865.

If the DVD-R knows how to talk IRDA then it probably would work.

I'd say that most don't. (But a lot do)

As the OP is in Swindon (a Langley area) they he definitely won't have a box that uses IRDA. But I can't say for sure that these recorders will work for him.

Re: DVD Recorders

Thanks for your replies

My PACE STB is model No DI4001NC. I have a digisender gold that works (with a repeat key issue that can be a pain but isn't a massive problem - you just have to be quick pressing the buttons ).

I noticed that there is a 'remote in' socket on the back of the stb - perhaps this would be an option if the dvd player supports it, though I seem to remember from somewhere deep in my memory that this wasn't enabled.

Re: DVD Recorders

Remote in socket is not enables in the STB software
4001 uses standard IR, and should work with the XS32 (code 0042) and Philips 720/725, however issues have been reported due to the Tosh not implementing RC5 properly.
The above recorders work well with the Pace IRDA boxes (1000,1010,2000,4000) with the addition of aRed-Eye Translator

Re: DVD Recorders

Thanks Mike - that's great news!

I've just spent a long time reading a thread elsewhere about the Hi-Grade DMS2 Windows Media Edition PC which also uses the same type of ir sender, I believe, so my options are open.

Now all I have to do is decide whether it's a DVD Recorder or a PC (or more accurately how much money I can afford to spend )

Thanks again
