NTL customer service technician interview questions.

Hi there,

I have an interview with NTL in Cardiff for a customer service technician role tomorrow. I am wondering what questions they may ask at the interview?

Has anyone here been for a interview for NTL and can tell me what I might expect for this role?

Thanks in advance.

Russell

I would of thought the technical level wouldn't be too difficult. (I know most of the supervisors/mangers in that region!)

I guess the emphasis will be on customer facing skills, and possibly some knowledge about tuning TV's, wiring up scart/RF equipment, understanding signal levels ie: dB's.

They may ask you questions about, what sort of levels to expect and some basic questions about cable modems etc.

I saw some questions being asked network technicians a few years ago, they were very company specific and even the brightest technician wouldn't know the answer without inside knowledge.

Best of luck with the interview, if there's anything specific you would like to ask someone around here will have the answer.

PS: It may be worth asking about the long term security of the position, if runours are true about other areas looking at contracting the jobs out

Re: NTL customer service technician interview questions.

A question on how you cope with change will probably be a biggie...

For a technician job I've no idea. For phone based ones it's normally a compentency based interview (although recently the only question asked is when can you start)

The job is with manpower so I take it I won't be employed by NTL. Does anyone know what they are like as an employer? Also what does the job involve, any ideas.

Thats wierd, I was told yesterday ntl were interviewing in Cardiff for service techs. It sounded like the jobs were working directly for ntl, possibly this is not the case then!

I understood that ntl supervisors/managers were conducting the interviews, and not a contract company!

Anyone know any more about this?

PS: If this is the case, it looks like more ntl jobs could be contracted out. Working for the wonderfull manpower company!

Re: NTL customer service technician interview questions.

Probably no actual RF techs available to do the tech interview as they've been culled to the bone, and no-one else has a clue about any of it so outsourcing the interviewing

Or am I joking there, scary part is I could be right...

I heard yesterday there are positions in Cardiff for service technicians, the old Residential Technician type job.

It looks possible that the reason for splitting these positions away from the network tech positions, after such a short period of combining them is to possibly outsource them.

It would certainly fall into place with the comment made a few months ago by a Senior manager from Swansea about his guys being capable of being given a van and out on the road to look after the network. Perhaps this idiot has convinced management that he can supply cheap Manpower employed technicians to look after in-house and network jobs.
