Playlists for HD player

When the lad gets back from NY I hope to have a new iRiver 340 HD player. I store all the families CD's in both Flac and mp3 on two drives and play them through foobar.
Now my problem is, if we want to share the HD player say for holidays, then we want our own music. Now assuming we have 40Gig of mp3's each, how can we create our own playlist in foobar or other software, that will enable us to transfer it to HD player and later delete that and transfer another.
If you can understand my question, how would you do it?
