cable via dvd recorder
yamada dvr-8000 dvd recorder:
I've got ntl cable scarted to my tv scarted to my dvd recorder and scart for my stereo sound amp. I need some advice on recording. I've bought this machine recently, all set up and working fine, including recording which I managed once. However since then I've not been able to record on timer or straight away. On timer I go through all the aspects as in the manual, nothing records. On recording straight away, i find the settings are not stored from the last occasion, which i dont know if this recorder actually does. anyway i tried to reset it for record, by pressing INPUT, then selecting scart as this is the method I use to connect dvd to tv to cable to stereo sound. However on scart I get no picture, I get a message that no signal can be found through scart, yet all the connections are ok, all scarts secure and fitted tightly. each product works fine apart from recording on dvd. i try repeatedly but no picture through scart for my INPUT, so i press NAVIGATION and tried av-in scart again, and selected all the other options ie record quality etc. once this is complete i still have the same problem as the dvd is trying to locate a picture from scart, the manual states on locating scart via input that the tv automatically tunes to cable/tv but all i get is a blank screen with the scart error message to check my connections. surely if i am getting a mesage clearly then the scarts are fine? what do you think the problem could be ?

Re: cable via dvd recorder
I'm not sure about your particular recorder but I have a Lite-on DVDR setup to record from cable.
The NTL STB has two scart outputs (at least mine does ) and I have one fully wired scart going to the TV and the second going to the DVDR. The DVDR then has a input scart (from STB) and output scart to TV. When I want to record from cable I have the STB tuned to correct channel and DVDR source set to scart. This works fine, for me.
If you are going STB -> TV -> DVDR are you sure the TV -> DVDR scart is set to Output mode (optional on my Panasonic TV).

Re: cable via dvd recorder
thanks for the replies, that was very quick ! i've attempted all the things you mentioned, the scarts are connected as standard ie tv to cable and tv to dvd-r, and a seperate double scart for both tv and dvd-r to connect to my stereo sound amp. everything works fine, i can play dvd's no problem. i originally got the dvd-r tuned in via scart where i could see cable tv, recorded a few secs to test it and it was fine. i know the scarts are all fine because i get a picture on each setup, its just when i go to record mode the scart setting gives me an error message instead, and i know the scart is ok because otherwise i wouldnt even get an error message. since then its been a no-no !
