Feint flickering / flashing on picture

Hello everybody!

I've recently purchased a new TV (Samsung WS28M064) and I'm experiencing a problem with the picture from my NTL STB. There seems to be what I can only describe as a flashing or flickering on the picture, which is especially noticeable when the scene on the TV is darker. I have been trawling through this and other forums and have noticed that someone else has had a similar problem on a Panasonic Plasma screen. The TV has RGB compatible scart and I have connected the cable box to this socket. I have changed the STB settings to output RGB (as it is meant to be better quality) but the flickering is worse than under the 'composite' setting! Under the composite setting the flickering is greatly reduced but still apparent.
The STB I'm using is a Pace unit; model no: 2000. I have checked my scart leads and there doesn't seem to be any problem with them and they are fully wired (which I understand means they are RGB compatible?).

Can anyone help what is becoming a rather frustrating issue?

Please let me know if I can provide any more information that might help.

Cheers!

Re: Feint flickering / flashing on picture

hi and to the site , i know this will be a pain but could you try another tv on the box and see what happens , have you checked that the cable into the box is tightened up , finger tight will do , no need to get the 36" adjustable out on it

Re: Feint flickering / flashing on picture

Hi

Thanks for reply.
Trying another TV will be difficult as it's the only one I have (that works and has RGB scart anyway)!
Cable is tightened enough and all other cables are firmly in place.

Re: Feint flickering / flashing on picture

Have you tried plugging a dvd-player or VCR directly into the tele? It may be the tele that's faulty...

Re: Feint flickering / flashing on picture

If its a new tv and you have used the ntl box on your od tv without any problems it would appear to indicate that there is a problem with the connection between box and tv or the tv. try 2 things, one a different scart cable, two as already suggested another tv.

hope you get it sorted!

I guess if all else fails, and you have a few hours to kill, give CS a call.

Browneggsandham

which would not be funny if it was true , wait times seem acceptable nowadays

Re: Feint flickering / flashing on picture

Hi, and thanks for all the replies!

Paulyoung666: I do have Broadband as well.
Danielf: My DVD is connected via S-Video and a similar problem occurs.
Scooby: Have tried a different scart cable but to no avail.

I have a TV engineer coming Saturday and I'm hoping this might shed some light on matters.
In the meantime I will try NTL CS - whilst exercising great patience!!

If anyone else has any further suggestions please let me know.

Many thanks to you all!

Re: Feint flickering / flashing on picture

I have a Sanyo TV and noticed this before. It seems like my dodgy TV has interference on the SCART input from the RF tuner. For example, if I was watching BBC1 on RF and then went to Sky1 on NTL via the SCART I would see wierd flickering effects. The only way around it I found was to make sure that the RF was tuned to the NTL box and then using SCART so the patterns matched and everything was fine.

As I said, it might just be my cheapo telly but it's worth a look if you have RF as well as SCART inputs

Re: Feint flickering / flashing on picture

Jonbxx,

Thanks for your suggestion. How do I go about making sure the RF is tuned to the NTL box?

Kind regards

Re: Feint flickering / flashing on picture

Sirsimon

Thanks for your reply. I have my terrestial aerial connected via RF leads and the picture seems Ok and doesn't seem to flicker. I am assuming this means the problem is with the cable box? The call to CS is lurking ever closer!

Cheers
